Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney won’t be running to Amazon Prime to get this on the latest season of their docu-series. The arguable title favorites due to their worldwide notoriety, Wrexham AFC, were denied the League Two title by the tough Stockport side. Stockport County won their last league game in style with an emphatic 5-2 win to claim the League Two trophy against the notorious Welsh team.

Wrexham had no chance at getting the league title once we saw how well Stockport played yesterday against Notts County. They came out firing, with Paddy Madden with only one dream in mind – to score a hat trick. And that he did. Madden scored early in the 26th minute and cemented his next two goals fantastically all before halftime.
Antoni Sarcevic added another goal just after the restart. Notts County pulled two back, and it looked like Langstaff and Crowley’s goals could see their side make a dramatic comeback. But, Ethan Pye took the hope away from Notts when he scored a late 84th-minute goal to secure Stockport as the league winner.
Stockport had 22 shots, with nine on the frame, compared to Notts’ 13 goals and seven on target. Despite only having 35% possession during the game, Stockport was an attacking-minded team that combined passing accuracy with tenacity in the final third.
Wrexham Heartache at the End of the Season
Stockport just needed to win to claim the League Two title, and they did so with style. Heartbroken Wrexham discovered they could not claim back-to-back league titles after Stockport’s victory. They won the National League trophy in a huge year last season, but couldn’t prevail in the 2023-2024 season.
However, that doesn’t mean the season was a waste. Wrexham secured automatic promotion after their huge 6-0 win against Forest Green. Therefore, their hard work and investment have paid off, as they will play in the third level of English football for the 2024-2025 season.
And, the season is not yet over. Wrexham still has a lot to play for. They can either end up third or second to cap off the end of this 2023-2024 year as they face Crewe Alexandra this weekend.
Looking at the last game of the year, and into next season, there are a few key Wrexham players to keep an eye out for.
Paul Mullin is a goal-scoring number nine who always comes up clutch in big moments. Elliott Lee is a clinch player who has scored two FA Cup goals and seven so far in total this season. The last one to keep an eye on for the next season is Ben Tozer, a reliable and steadfast center-back.
