Four Trades To Watch Ahead Of the WNBA Trade Deadline On August 7
The WNBA Trade Deadline is August 7. Teams can help their playoff push at the deadline. The WNBA’s hard salary cap makes in-season deals challenging, and 10 of the league’s 13 teams are within striking distance of the playoffs. That means more are looking to add talent for the stretch run than trade it away.
WNBA: Four Trades Ahead Of Deadline
The Seattle Storm and Connecticut Sun. The Storm get Guard Marina Mabrey and Sun get Alysha Clark, Katie Lou Samuelson, and a 2026 1st round pick. This will put Seattle in a position to upgrade now while keeping an eye on the future. With the Sun at 3-20 and Mabrey headed toward unrestricted free agency, a deadline deal makes sense.
The Connecticut Sun and Washington Mystics. The Sun get Aaliyah Edwards and the Mystics receive Guard Bria Hartley, 2026 1st round and 2027 second rounds picks. ESPN’s Kendra Andrews and Alexa Philippou reported that the Mystics are working to trade Edwards, who has been surpassed on the Mystics’ forward depth chart by rookie All-Star Kiki Iriafen. After starting half of her games and averaging 21.8 MPG as a rookie, Edwards is down to 14.2 this season.
Other Trades
Minnesota Lynx and Washington. Mystics get Forward Emily Engstler and the Lynx get Diamond Miller, and a 2027 second-round pick. Engstler averaged 15.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per 36 minutes in 2024 and was a trade target last offseason, but the Mystics disregarded her offer.
The Indiana Fever get Forward Myisha Hines-Allen while the Dallas Wings get Center Damiris Dantas and a 2026 second-round pick. As a third post behind starters Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard, Hines-Allen should be an improvement. With the Wings five games out of the eighth seed, getting anything in return would probably make this trade worth it.
Final Thoughts
The WNBA trade deadline this year might not be all fireworks and earth-shattering, but these four trades between these teams can help improve for this years playoffs and for the future for some teams that are trying to improve their rosters. Time will tell how the trade deadline unfolds in the WNBA come August 7.
