Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty Are Both Elite Teams Above the Class
The Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty are both 7-0 on the young season, as both teams have had impressive starts to the 2025 season to this point, especially Minnesota with the now MVP favorite in Naphessa Collier, who is averaging 26.3 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, New York’s duo of Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart are both flourishing in that Liberty system that helped them win the championship last season over Minnesota. These two teams are on a collision course once again for an opportunity at the Championship.
The Lynx and Liberty’s Resumes Thus Far

Minnesota has played the Wings twice, Sparks, Sun, Storm, Mercury, and Valkyries; meanwhile, New York has played the Aces, Fever, Sky, Valkyries twice, Mystics, and Sun in their seven games. And the common opponents, the Liberty, have blown out the Valkyries and Sun, while the Lynx had close games with both. So I would favor New York’s resume right now alone as the most impressive of the two.Â
Both teams have some sort of continuity. Minnesota has more continuity thus far, as they have all five starters back, while New York is working on the chemistry of a few pieces. Collier has been the best player this season, so Minnesota gets that edge, although Stewie and Ionescu have been awesome. Coaching is a wash, as both coaches have been stellar to this point with the adjustments.Â
Final Thoughts
Both Teams are amazing, and I think these two are going to be the two teams in October that will be playing for the Title this season, and the trend is heading in that direction as of June 2. There’s still a long season ahead of us, and a lot can change from now to then throughout the long season, but if the trends keep going like this, these two teams will not be stopped all year long. It will be interesting to see what the first matchup between these two teams will look like when they do finally play each other on July 30th.Â
