Former Washington Wizards legend Gilbert Arenas doubled down on his take on European players. He first discussed on Gil’s Arena how Luka Doncic isn’t comparable to Michael Jordan. But he was comparable to James Harden due to his lack of defense mixed with his versatile bag on offense. However, on the NightCap show with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco, Gilbert continued to talk down on European players.
The Washington Wizards Legend’s View of Nikola Jokic

Gilbert Arenas covered how some NBA execs quoted, “Jokic winning 3rd MVP isn’t going to age well.” Gilbert Arenas said that Jokic is the worst MVP winner of the last forty years. What was his reasoning? He blames it on his game. He pointed out several MVP winners had won it, with their teams finishing first and second.
The Washington Wizards legend also noted that there are exceptions to this, such as Russell Westbrook recording a triple-double in his 2016-2017 MVP. However, the Thunder finished sixth in the west that year. He also mentioned Jordan’s MVP, where the Bulls finished 9th in the 87-88 season. That year, Jordan won MVP, DPOY, and led the league in scoring and steals.
He said Nikola Jokic‘s second MVP in the 2021-2022 season had no historical significance. That year, the Denver Nuggets finished 6th in the Western Conference. Nikola Jokic averaged 25 points, nearly 12 rebounds, and close to 10 assists that season.
Is Jokic the Worst MVP in the Last 40 Years?

I’m sure there are more questionable MVPs like the two Steve Nash MVPs. Shoot, people forget Karl Malone’s 1999 MVP award in a lockout-shortened season. Jokic isn’t the worst MVP in the last 40 years. He averaged nearly a triple-double that season and his team had a decent playoff run. I do think that Embiid should have won it that particular season, but Jokic isn’t the worst MVP of the last 40 years.
