No league or sports organization wants to be involved in a gambling scandal. But recent Toronto Raptors events pushed the limits and, realistically, are now seeing a highly expected outcome.
Even though some may disagree about the extent of consumption of certain sports entertainment products in our society at the moment, the rules are crystal clear. Therefore, the latest news that is circling out of the NBA league office not only had to happen this way but was the only solution.

Final Verdict For Toronto Raptors Player
According to reports from the NBA league office, the now former Toronto Raptors player, Jontay Porter, will be banned from the league for life. Again, this shouldn’t come as a surprise or shock to anyone. It’s the responsibility of the league to maintain its integrity as best as it can.

And this wasn’t a minor, small-scale issue. Reportedly, Porter made over $20,000 gambling. And crucially, one of the bets included him placing money on his team to lose. This, more than anything else, is unacceptable, which is why the league needed to respond the way that they did.
Universal Condemnation For Toronto Raptors Athlete
Often, governing bodies are seen in a terrible light when it comes to adjudication and justice. However, in this case, not only does the response from the NBA make sense, but there is going to be little to zero pushback in terms of banning Porter as his Toronto Raptors days and professional playing days are over.
What’s more, it’s odd that he would risk and jeopardize everything for a fraction of what he made as a player in order to make money in a way in which she knows that he will eventually be caught. For now, he will have a lot of time to reflect and will likely try to find a way to mediate his actions. Unfortunately, for some, anything he does or says now will be too little, too late.

NBA Looking To Distance Themselves
As mentioned, the organization, the players, and anyone involved with the team and those surrounding Porter are going to do little to try to defend or mitigate the punishment. This will be seen as less of a dark stain on the league so long as this is mostly the end that we hear of this.
But events like this do little to ease concerns or skepticism among those who view gambling and sports in general as fixed entertainment products. However, considering the cards that were dealt, the NBA and the Toronto Raptors did what was needed to help remedy this situation.
