Top 5 Absolutely Easiest Pro-Wrestling Holds to Learn

For those just starting, these are the Top 5 Easiest Pro-Wrestling Holds to learn! Just like my last list, The Top 5 Absolute Easiest Pro-Wrestling Moves to Learn, this list will go over 5 basic, but effective holds to excite the crowd. Keep in mind, that the point of the hold is for it to appear painful so that it looks effective. To this end, practice caution when applying these holds, as injury could occur. Limber up, stretch well and practice with supervision. I hope that this listicle can help people out!

5. The Texas Clover Leaf

From the most difficult holds to one of the least, the Texas Clover Leaf is a classic hold. It begins with grabbing the opponent’s legs and lifting them up. Bend one leg so that the shin is behind the knee of the straight leg and place the ankle of the straight leg in your armpit. With the same arm, reach around the ankle and through the opening formed by the legs and lock your hands together. Step over your opponent, turn them over and lean back. This will compress the legs, stretch the abdomen, and flex the spine.

This is a good all-around hold for any wrestler to learn. Face (hero) or heel (villain).

4. The Boston Crab

A deviation from the Texas Clover Leaf, the Boston Crab is a popular hold. Made famous by the likes of Chris Jericho, shown above using the Walls of Jericho variation, the Crab is a simple maneuver. Stand over your opponent’s back, take their shins under your arms, and sit down, lifting them up. This will wrench their spine and feel more painful than it looks.

Its simplicity, coupled with your great showmanship, make the Boston Crab a staple in your move-set.

3. Camel Clutchpro-wrestling camel clutch

Invented by Gory Guerrero, and popularized by the Iron Shiek, the Camel Clutch is a staple of wrestling. It has also been modified by other notable wrestlers like Scott Steiner and others. The move has a historic legacy, and besides its famous users, it is easy to learn. Simply sit on your opponent’s back, hoist their arms over your knees, and put your hands under their chin. Wrench the chin up, and this will stretch their back, causing pain. A good move for heels, this can generate great heat from the crowd, making them root for the face.

The best way to describe it would be like a reverse Boston Crab, but in truth, is even easier, hence the number 2 spot.

2. Ankle Lock

The second easiest hold to learn for a pro-wrestler, the ankle lock is meant to extend a match. Famously used by Kurt Angle of WWE, the ankle lock is exactly as simple as it looks. Grab your opponent’s ankle and twist it inward. It’s like you’re forcing your opponent to twist their ankle, and it hurts just as bad. Be careful not to pull too hard, however, as you could accidentally injure your partner in the ring.

1. Pro-Wrestling Sleeper Hold

One of the easiest holds to learn, you have likely seen a variation of a sleeper hold in other combat sports. Some include a Rear-Naked Choke, a Guillotine Choke, or even a Triangle Choke. But the easiest to learn would have to be the pro-wrestling Sleeper Hold. Take your inner elbow, and lay it over the upper half of your opponent’s neck, where the carotid arteries are.  To secure that arm, reach over and grip your hands together, forming a tight grip. This will give the appearance you are choking the partner. The actual force you put on the hold is up to you.
