Vin Diesel Teases Cristiano Ronaldo Role in Final Fast & Furious Movie

But just when you thought Dominic Toretto’s family couldn’t get any more absurdly star-studded, Vin Diesel decides to drop a bombshell on Instagram.

It looks like Ronaldo is joining the family. Yes, that Ronaldo. The guy who is arguably the most famous athlete on the planet is apparently trading his cleats for a gear stick.

Vin Diesel Confirms a Role Written for Ronaldo

On Friday, Vin Diesel took to Instagram to post a photo of himself embracing the Portuguese soccer legend. Now, usually, these celebrity photo ops are just that—two rich guys hanging out. But Diesel’s caption sent the internet into a tailspin.

He wrote: “Everyone asked, would he be in the Fast mythology… I gotta tell you he is a real one. We wrote a role for him…”

First of all, I absolutely love that Vin calls it the “Fast mythology.” It’s not a movie about stealing DVD players anymore, folks; it’s a mythology. But semantics aside, this is a massive tease. Diesel has a history of using his social media to manifest casting choices (remember when he campaigned for The Rock to come back?), so this isn’t just smoke. It sounds like there is a genuine script floating around Hollywood with Ronaldo’s name on it.

Why Adding a Football Legend Makes Sense

If you look at this from a studio executive’s perspective, this is the easiest “yes” in history. The Fast franchise is currently the fifth-highest-grossing film series ever, sitting on a pile of cash worth $7.32 billion. But franchises eventually run out of gas, and Fast X had a ballooning budget that made profit margins tight. Enter Ronaldo.

The man is a walking economy. At 40 years old, playing for Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has amassed a staggering 668 million followers on Instagram. He is one of the most recognizable faces in human history. Even if he just shows up to wave a checkered flag or grimace at a villain, millions of fans who have never seen a Toretto barbecue will buy a ticket just to see CR7 on the big screen.

It fits the franchise’s MO, too. They’ve already brought in John Cena, Jason Momoa, Cardi B, and nearly every other pop culture icon they could get their hands on. Adding a global sports icon is the logical next step in the franchise’s quest for world domination.

What Will Ronaldo Actually Do?

This is the million-dollar question. Ronaldo has zero feature film experience. Sure, he’s done commercials where he looks handsome and kicks a ball, but acting alongside Vin Diesel requires a specific kind of… intensity.

Will Ronaldo be a villain? A street racer from Lisbon? Or will he play himself? Given the “Fast mythology,” it wouldn’t surprise me if Dom Toretto recruits Ronaldo to kick a soccer ball into the engine intake of a helicopter to save the world.

Whatever the role, he’s entering the game at the buzzer. Diesel has previously confirmed that Fast X: Part 2, slated for release in April 2027, will be the final entry in the main series. If Ronaldo is going to make his mark on the “mythology,” this is his last shot.

There is a heavier, more emotional side to this news cycle, though. While teasing the Ronaldo cameo, reports are also circulating that Diesel wants to “reunite Dom and Brian O’Conner” for the finale.

As fans know, Paul Walker tragically passed away in 2013. His send-off in Furious 7 was handled with incredible grace and is widely considered one of the best tributes in cinema history. The idea of using CGI to bring him back for one last ride is… complicated. Diesel mentioned three conditions for the finale, one of which was reuniting the characters.

It’s a risky move. While Walker’s brothers helped with body doubling in the past, and his daughter Meadow had a cameo in Fast X, digging up the past can feel exploitative if not done perfectly. Bringing in a massive distraction like Ronaldo might be a way to balance the heavy emotional lifting with the high-octane spectacle the series is known for. For now, we just have to wait.
