Manchester United Inch Closer To Premier League Star
Manchester United is having its worst-ever Premier League season, and it has decided to address it in the transfer market. According to reports, Matheus Cunha is the player they are looking to bring to Old Trafford. Manager Ruben Amorim has grown frustrated with his forwards and wants to change up his attacking options.
The current United forwards have been abysmal all season. Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund, and Alejandro Garnacho have all shown inconsistencies throughout the season. Moreover, Amad Diallo, the club’s best player this season, is sidelined for the rest of the season due to an injury. With the problems lurking around the forwards, Manchester United has decided to dip into the transfer market.
Matheus Cunha To Reshape Manchester United’s Attacking Options
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United is optimistic about meeting the release clause of £62.5 million for Cunha. However, they have to worry about the Profit and Sustainability Rules as the cut-throat system carries on under the ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe. United have spent a bunch on attacking options in recent years, including Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. However, they will be looking to part ways with some attackers to make way for Cunha.
The reports also claim that Newcastle United has been the biggest competitor for the three-time Champions League winners for this transfer. However, Amorim has never hidden his admiration for Cunha and hopes to bring him to Old Trafford. In the recent Old Trafford game, the former Sporting Lisbon manager was seen in contact with Cunha in the tunnel. United lost the game 1-0 to Wolves, who are now level on points with the Red Devils.
Alternatives Of Matheus Cunha
Cunha is not the only forward Manchester United is looking for in the transfer window. Victor Osimhen from Napoli, currently on loan at Galatasaray, is also among the other forwards. Osimhen has a reputation for being a top forward, having led Napoli to a Serie A title a few seasons ago. However, Osimhen wants his future away from Italy.
Apart from that, there is Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. However, the Red Devils are facing competition from Chelsea, who have grown frustrated with Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku’s poor performances. There are suggestions that the Blues might trigger his £30m release clause. Amorim’s recruitment could depend on selling and their performance in the UEFA Europa League.
Manchester United are currently in the Europa League semifinals after an astonishing second-leg win against Lyon. The Red Devils were down 4-6 on aggregate in extra time of the second leg but scored three goals in the last five minutes to send Old Trafford into a frenzy. Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Harry Maguire were the three scorers for the club on the night.
Potential Exits
Manchester United will try to recoup as much market value as possible for the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Casemiro in the summer. Sancho and Antony have already left the club on loan to Chelsea and Real Betis, respectively. Casemiro was on the list to leave but didn’t as no club matched his wages. However, his market value may increase considering his performance against Lyon in the Europa League quarterfinals.
Sancho is on loan at Chelsea after previously falling out with Manager Erik ten Hag. Despite the Dutchman getting sacked in the middle of this season, the club’s relations with the Englishman haven’t improved as they look to get rid of him. Marcus Rashford, who was sent to Aston Villa, is the biggest name that could leave the club this season. The English forward has improved his performances under Unai Emery.
