Liam Delap Officially Makes Future Decision
The inevitable has finally happened. Liam Delap has officially dropped a bombshell about his future. The Englishman has been linked with multiple English clubs this summer, and many believe he is going to be the talk of the summer this season. However, it looks like this transfer saga might end quicker than most expected.
Delap has announced that he will join Chelsea and snub other clubs. The Englishman is currently under contract at Ipswich Town, where he produced a fantastic individual season. It wasn’t enough as Ipswich Town got relegated under Kieran McKenna.
What Are the Reports Saying?
According to the reports from The Athletic, Delap is set to snub Manchester United, Everton, and Newcastle. The 22-year-old would prefer to come to Stamford Bridge and continue his career development under Enzo Maresca. Delap has developed a fantastic reputation in the recently concluded Premier League, scoring 12 goals.
Chelsea wants to improve their goal output as they are not scoring enough with Nicolas Jackson. It is now up to the Blues to trigger the £30 million release clause and make the Ipswich man their own. The reports from the Athletic also say that Juventus and AC Milan are monitoring the situation.
What Did Kieran McKenna Say?
McKenna did give some hints about Delap’s future. According to Sun Sport, he said, “Liam’s looking at his options for next year, which I think he is entitled to do, and we support him with that. I think we have given him permission to do that this week. It’s a very important decision for his future. Of course, there is a lot of interest – and rightly so.
“I think part of his week has been having some of those conversations. It looks more likely than not that he will move on this summer, and he has interest from pretty much every club in the league, and I don’t think there are many clubs in the world who wouldn’t want to have him. Nothing is sorted, nothing is done or completed or even very, very, very close, so that process will take its course.”
Manchester United has already moved on. The Red Devils have triggered the £62.5m release clause to purchase Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Like Chelsea, the Red Devils have also not had good scoring outputs with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee misfiring this season. They will start next season without European football.
