Harry Kane About To Win First Domestic Trophy
The Harry Kane curse regarding domestic trophies could finally be over. For so long, the English superstar has been hunting for his first domestic trophy in the colors of Tottenham and Bayern Munich. However, all that waiting is about to end in a few weeks. The English striker is on the verge of lifting the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich, with the constant slip-ups of current Bundesliga holders, Bayer Leverkusen.
Kane moved to Bayern Munich last season and integrated into the team comfortably. Despite scoring 44 goals across all competitions last season, the Bavarians couldn’t lift any silverware. Because Bayern Munich had often lifted the Bundesliga title in the past few decades, Kane was ridiculed even further. Even though Bayern crashed out of the UEFA Champions League against Inter Milan, they can win their first trophy with the English striker.
The Situation Of the Bundesliga Race
This weekend, Bayer Leverkusen drew 1-1 against St. Pauli, meaning Bayern Munich is eight points ahead of them with 30 games played. With four more games, the Bavarians must win two to guarantee the Bundesliga title. However, they could achieve that much more easily, provided that Leverkusen hasn’t been on a great winning run lately.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich won 4-0 against Heidenheim, with Kane scoring. The Bundesliga giants believe they are on the verge of glory, with their rivals creating more space for themselves. Bayern have only lost two games and drawn six out of 30. Although Leverkusen has also lost just two matches, they have drawn 10 games, which has massively affected their title challenge.
When Can Bayern Munich Win the Bundesliga?
Bayern Munich could win the title if they beat Mainz next weekend. However, they would need to ensure that all the other results go in their favor. As said before, they have an eight-point lead over Bayer Leverkusen. With four games left, a Leverkusen loss and a Bayern win would secure Kane his first domestic trophy. If both teams win their respective matches, it would deny the inevitable as the Bavarians would need to wait another weekend.
Harry Kane’s Struggle For a Major Trophy
Kane is one of the greatest English strikers of all time. With over 200 Premier League goals and over 400 goals overall, the Englishman has achieved the highest of Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney in terms of individual achievements. However, the Bayern Munich man has not been able to convert those individual milestones into domestic trophies.
For England, he has reached the semifinals of the World Cup in 2018 and the finals of the European Championships in 2021. Not even the likes of Shearer and Rooney could achieve this, but this is still not good enough for a trophy. England lost 2-1 to Croatia in the 2018 World Cup semifinals and then lost on penalty shootouts to Italy in the 2021 Euro final.
As a Tottenham Hotspur, Kane reached two League Cup finals and one Champions League final. They also finished runners-up in the 2016-17 Premier League season. Despite coming close so often, he has been unable to win in either of those finals. Many criticisms were directed at Mauricio Pochettino for starting him in the 2018-19 Champions League final despite his not being fully fit.
Will the Doubters Be Silenced?
For this season, Kane has nothing more than the Bundesliga title to look forward to. Bayern Munich have already crashed out of Europe, but have qualified for next season’s Champions League. Despite Bayern winning the Bundesliga, it would still not convince Kane’s doubters, as the Bundesliga historically has always been won by Bayern Munich. However, the mouths of his critics could be shut if he replicated these performances in the England jersey or the UEFA Champions League.
