Angel Correa scored a dramatic equalizer in the 95th minute, securing a 1-1 draw for Atlético Madrid against the reigning La Liga champions, Real Madrid, on Sunday. The 29-year-old first experienced a tense moment as he had to wait for the VAR review to confirm his onside status. However, Correa’s perfect timing on the run ultimately earned the hosts a crucial point.

Ángel Correa once again came on as a sub to earn points for Diego Simeone’s team. Diego Simeone Criticizes Courtois For Celebration

Atlético’s manager Diego Simeone made a subtle jab at Courtois. He pointed out that the goalkeeper celebrated by looking at Atlético Madrid fans, so this made the home supporters angry. “You can celebrate a goal but not by looking at the fans, having a go, making gestures like that,” Simeone said. “The fans don’t just become angry by themselves, they become angry for a reason.”

Simeone also stated that Real Madrid supporters had previously thrown lighters at Courtois when he was still playing for Atlético Madrid. Aside from the angry home supporters and 95th-minute Correa’s equalizer, there was more bad news for Courtois. The Belgian goalkeeper seemed uncomfortable towards the end of the match and Carlo Ancelotti confirmed he was injured. “Courtois had a muscular issue, he’ll be looked at tomorrow,” said Ancelotti.
