The Seattle Seahawks had a busy day as they released four key players to free up $28 million in cap space. The players they released were Defensive Tackle Roy Robertson-Harris, Safety Rayshawn Jenkins, Offensive Tackle George Fant, and Defensive Tackle Dre’Mont Jones.
Robertson-Harris had 13 tackles this past season with 2 sacks, Jenkins had 53 total tackles, Fant is a veteran offensive lineman, and Jones had 28 total tackles and 4 sacks. Will this salary cap space free up the Seattle Seahawks to make a marquee offseason move?

It could be an offseason of upheaval in Seattle. Tuesday’s moves could have been the first step in that direction. Wide Receiver DK Metcalf has been the subject of trade speculation this offseason. Seattle has stood firm that Metcalf will not be traded, but that could be a negotiation tactic. The Seattle Seahawks are also reportedly planning to re-sign Quarterback Geno Smith and release Wide Receiver Tyler Lockett in the coming days.
Final Thoughts
Seattle’s moves today allow the team to have vast flexibility this offseason. The team finished with the same record as the Los Angeles Rams but missed the NFL Playoffs due to losing out on the strength of victory tiebreaker. The Seahawks are not usually an aggressive offseason team, but it will be intriguing to see how General Manager John Schneider uses this cap space in the coming months.
