San Francisco 49ers Release 2025 Offseason Workout Schedule

San Francisco 49ers

On Thursday, the NFL released the 2025 offseason workout schedule for all 32 teams, including the San Francisco 49ers. They will soon return to the field in hopes of a rebound season after finishing 6-11 in 2024. The 49ers, who made an appearance in the Super Bowl during the 2023 season, are entering a season full of questions after losing several key players. They included Linebacker Dre Greenlaw, Safety Talanoa Hufanga, and Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel, among others.

Now getting ready for their offseason workouts, this season will be about proving they can still compete in a loaded NFC. With Quarterback Brock Purdy set to sign a massive extension soon, the 49ers will look to build around their star quarterback, hoping that he is the guy who can lead the franchise to its sixth Super Bowl title.

49ers Offseason Workout Schedule and Key Dates

The offseason program for teams is split into three phases. Phase one, which spans over the first two weeks, is strictly meetings, rehab, and strength and conditioning with no field work allowed. Phase two, which spans three weeks after phase one, involves on-field drills and walk-through drills while no live contact or team drills are allowed. Finally, the last four weeks involve phase three, also known as OTAs, which involves 7-on-7s, 9-on-7s, and 11-on-11s, but still no contact.

Following the conclusion of the draft, the 49ers will hold a rookie minicamp for their new draft picks. It will occur a week or two after the draft. In June, mandatory minicamp will be held before players get a summer break until training camp opens in July.

Full Offseason Schedule

The first day of offseason workouts for the 49ers will begin on April 22 for players who elect to participate in the two-week phase of meetings, rehab, and strength training. Following that phase, OTAs will be held on May 27, 28, 30 and then on June 2, 3 and 5. Finally, mandatory minicamp will be held on June 10 and 11 before players take about a month-long vacation before Training Camp starts.

What To Expect In 2025

During the Kyle Shanahan era, expectations are sky-high every season. The expectation has been over the last eight or so years that San Francisco should be a major contender in the NFC. However, things could look quite different this season. With the amount of roster turnover combined with the impending massive contract that Purdy will get, the 49ers may take a massive step back this season.

Losing Greenlaw, Samuel, and Hufanga, three players who had central roles in three straight NFC Championship berths and two Super Bowl appearances since 2019, could prove costly as the team is scrambling to establish a new identity. While the roster will look different and the talent level is still to be determined, the 49ers have shown they can surprise people. Especially with a conference-winning quarterback in Purdy, it would be unwise to count them out.

Final Thoughts

This season could be one of the most important seasons for the 49ers, at least during the Kyle Shanahan-John Lynch era. With the franchise hoping that Purdy can be the franchise quarterback long term, this is a year where Purdy can prove just how good he is.

Gone are many of the All-Pros and Pro-Bowlers he grew so accustomed to playing with. They will most likely be replaced with cheaper, younger guys. If Purdy and company can continue to play at a high level and keep the 49ers as contenders, that could set the franchise up for a future of dominance.
