Sacramento Kings Superstar De’Aaron Fox In ‘No Rush’ To Sign Extension

Sacramento Kings De'Aaron Fox

The Sacramento Kings are led by one of the most clutch players in the NBA, De’Aaron Fox. The former lottery pick has blossomed into a leader on this team. For years, the Kings were the laughingstock of the league, but they have turned things around. They now boast one of the most exciting offenses in the league. This offseason, Fox is eligible to sign a three-year max contract extension, but so far, nothing has materialized. In a recent interview, Fox revealed he is not worried and is in “no rush” to sign.

Sacramento Kings De’Aaron Fox On Extension

De’Aaron Fox spoke with Sam Amick and Anthony Slater of The Athletic and revealed his thoughts on his contract. Sacramento Kings fans will be happy to hear what he had to say. He isn’t worried and wants to be with the franchise in the long term.

“For one, I’m in no rush. For two, I just want to make sure where we’re at, because people have seen the league—like, turnover of a team can happen in the matter of a month or two or six months. I mean, if we were contending for a championship, [it might be different]. Like, obviously, [the Boston Celtics’] Jayson [Tatum] just won a championship or [the Miami Heat’s] Bam [Adebayo], who has been to the Finals twice. I’m just using people who are in my class [who have signed extensions]. They’ve already kind of been through that, done that. So yeah, they have that security of [having done] that. For me, obviously, we’re continuing to build.”

Fox doesn’t want to be pot-committed right now. Things change fast in the NBA. If the Sacramento Kings organization decides to go in a different direction, he wants to keep his options open.

Season Outlook

The Sacramento Kings are in a tricky spot in the Western Conference. Preseason projections have them finishing between fifth and seventh. Teams like Oklahoma City and Minnesota are powerhouses, and the Kings feel like they are a tier below. However, the Kings are sporting a new-look roster. DeMar DeRozan brings a veteran presence, and he has shown that he can still score with ease. Domantas Sabonis can rack up triple-doubles with ease. As always, defense is the question mark. However, if the offense is elite, the defense can be more middle-of-the-road.

This is a big season for De’Aaron Fox. Part of the reason he is in no rush for a new contract is he can get an even bigger one next offseason. However, that is dependent on him performing at an All-NBA level this year. If he can continue to play at a high level, he could see another huge payday in 2025.
