Match Details

Match: Borussia Dortmund @ Real Madrid

Stadium: Estadio Santiago Bernabeu

Date & Time: Real Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund will kick off at 8 pm UK time on Tuesday, 22 October 2024.

Real Madrid vs Dortmund: Preview

Madrid and Dortmund have won their recent matches in their respective domestic leagues by the same score (2-1). Borussia Dortmund has not been up to the mark since the start of the season. The Yellows currently sit in seventh place in the Bundesliga, four points behind the leaders Bayern Munich.

Los Blancos are in second place in La Liga standings behind the leaders FC Barcelona who won their match against Sevilla 5-1. Madrid is just three points away from the leaders as we fast approach the El Clasico on Saturday this week. Barcelona needs to take care of business, as the defending champions might bounce back anytime soon.

Real Madrid vs Dortmund: Team News

Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe has recovered from a muscular injury and is set to play for Real Madrid on Tuesday. Despite being involved in an alleged rape case in Sweden—accusations he firmly denies—Mbappe is fit for action. Real Madrid, however, will be without Dani Carvajal (knee), David Alaba (knee), and Brahim Diaz (abductor) for the game.

Carvajal’s season-ending knee surgery has fueled speculation that Real might make a move for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold in January, but for now, Lucas Vazquez is holding down the fort. On the left side of the defense, Ferland Mendy could step in for Fran Garcia, and Rodrygo is eyeing a return, possibly in place of Eduardo Camavinga.

Dortmund

Meanwhile, Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi, fresh off a hat-trick against Celtic, is sidelined with a severe hamstring injury and won’t return until late November. He joins Julien Duranville (thigh), Giovanni Reyna (groin), and Yan Couto (muscle) on the injury list. Pascal Gross and Niklas Sule are also doubtful for the game.

Head-to-Head

Borussia Dortmund met Real Madrid in the Champions League final. Last time out, Madrid won the trophy for the 15th time, courtesy of second-half goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr in a 2-0 victory. It will be interesting to see if Dortmund can take revenge on Madrid this time in a group fixture.

Real Madrid vs Dortmund: Prediction

Real Madrid’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti remains confident they earn the three points. The Whites are expected to dominate the match. Borussia Dortmund has to impress defensively by maintaining a solidified line. Can Dortmund go against all odds to take a point and upset Real Madrid on Tuesday? We’ll have to wait and see.
