Real Madrid had experienced a big setback a week back in La Liga fumbling at the 258th El Classico against Barcelona. Los Blancos saw themselves outclassed by the red-hot Hansi Flick side. They lost 4-nil. Their next game, which was another La Liga match against Valencia, was postponed due to a flood that occurred in the city.
Following the postponement, Real Madrid were meant to host AC Milan at the Bernabeu. It was a game meant for the Los Blancos to regain their momentum after their shocking loss 10 days back. However, the Madrid side failed woefully leading AC Milan to stun them in their backyard.
Real Madrid vs AC Milan: First Half
Real Madrid entered the game with lots of intensity, hoping to relish a statement as early as possible. The pressure released by Madrid allowed AC Milan to lose control and rhythm. However, Paulo Fonseca’s side maintained a solid defensive line hindering Carlo Ancelotti’s team from getting a possible goal. Soon AC Milan drew first blood. A beautifully delivered corner found Thiaw’s head, who deflected the ball beyond Lunin giving Milan the lead.
However, after a few minutes, the Los Blancos got a response, from the spot kick. Vinicius Jr. did well to deliver the ball beyond Mike Maignan’s reach. After the equalizer Real Madrid slowed down the intensity, leading to some periods of lackluster play. This allowed Milan to grow into the game. Raphael Leao’s shot was parried by Lunin, which fell into an unmarked Morata. The former Madrid star wasted no time in punishing his former team. Madrid ended up trailing 2-1.
Real Madrid vs AC Milan: Second Half
Real Madrid resumed the second half with great intensity as they hoped to secure an equalizer. However, they left themselves vulnerable with the likes of Leao and Pulisic lurking behind to punish the Spanish Giants. Madrid soon got dispossessed in Milan’s half. The resultant lead ball is being fed into Leao’s path, who eventually knocked it past Militao and Vasquez.
He squared it to Reijnders who had acres of space to control the ball and slot it beyond Lunin, giving Milan their third goal. Madrid tried their best to get something going, but AC Milan grew more into the game, and defensively they were unmatched. Madrid came close to a consolation with a Rudiger volley into an empty net, but Rodrygo who was in an offside position, tried attempting the ball too. This led to the goal being disqualified. AC Milan continued Madrid’s misery making it two defeats in a row at the Bernabeu.
Man Of the Match Performance
AC Milan had a lot of ingenious display in the team, but key players to look at are Tijjani Reinjders and Fofana. The two midfielders outclassed Madrid’s midfield combination. Fofana was physically dominant and Reijnders displayed a high of creativity in the middle. The Dutchman kept hold of the ball, whilst also releasing sublime line-breaking passes to punish the Los Blancos. In the end, those two contributed heavily to the fall of Real Madrid.
