Ole Miss Rebels Look Unstoppable to Start the 2024 Season

Ole Miss Rebels Quarterback Jaxson Dart

The Ole Miss Rebels remain undefeated after defeating Middle Tennessee 52-3. Through the first two weeks, the Rebels’ offense has scored 128 points, and their defense has only allowed three points in two games. They have not played any noteworthy teams, but should Ole Miss be considered a serious contender in the SEC?

In the Rebels 52-3 rout of Middle Tennessee, running back Henry Parrish Jr. tallied 165 rushing yards and scored 4 touchdowns. Quarterback Jaxson Dart completed 25 of 27 passes for 377 yards and a touchdown. Wide Receiver Tre Harris led the Rebels with 9 receptions for 130 yards. Antwane Wells Jr. added 6 receptions for 78 yards and caught Dart’s only touchdown pass of the game.

So far this season, Jaxson Dart has thrown for 795 yards, 6 TDs, no interceptions, and has been sacked 4 times. Parrish Jr. has tallied 205 rushing yards and 4 TDs, averaging 102.5 rushing yards per game. Tre Harris leads the team with 309 receiving yards and 2 TDs, averaging 154.5 receiving yards per game.

Ole Miss hasn’t faced a decent team yet this year, but they are putting the SEC on notice with offensive numbers like this. Next week, the Rebels battle the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest, which should be another offensive explosion.

Defensive Perfection

Looking at the defense, the Rebels have only surrendered 3 points in two games. Against Furman, they only gave up 172 total yards of offense, and Middle Tennessee put up 279 yards. Again, the competition has not been top-tier, but to not allow a touchdown in two weeks should not go unmentioned.

Ole Miss has some marquee matchups left this year, and it will be interesting to see how this defense fares. The Rebels were the most successful team in the Transfer Portal this year, and it seems to be paying off. The LSU game on October 12 will be a true testament to what this team is capable of. They don’t play Alabama but tangle with Oklahoma on October 26th and Georgia on November 9th. Their schedule from late September to early November is brutal.

Conclusion

The Ole Miss Rebels are one of the teams that most people are not taking seriously in the SEC this year. They are looking at Alabama, Georgia, and LSU because they are perennial powerhouses. This team is loaded with talent, is deep on both sides of the ball, and has one of the best offensive units in the country. While the current body of work doesn’t feature a noteworthy team, Jaxson Dart is one of the best quarterbacks in college football.

Take this as a warning: Don’t be surprised to see the Rebels win the SEC this year and make a deep playoff run. I wouldn’t even rule out the chance they are crowned national champions.
