Shortly After Breyden Schenn Trade, St. Louis Loses to the Islanders
St. Louis hosted an emotional game as their Blues lost to the Islanders 4-3 on Tuesday night. The game was emotional because the two teams made a trade this past Friday. The Islanders got Breyden Schenn and the Blues got Jonathan Drouin and a couple of draft picks. Schenn played nine seasons in St. Louis and was their captain.
St. Louis has not been very good much of this year, although they just won all four of the games on their road trip. That said, the Islanders needed to win this game. So, the fact that they were trailing 1-0 after the first period was not good. The Islanders have a razor-thin margin (they currently occupy third place in the Metropolitan Division), only three points ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
St. Louis Blues and Islanders Summary

The Islanders outplayed the Blues in the first period. One can see this by looking at the shot total. The Islanders outshot the Blues 17-5 in the first period, but were trailing, 1-0. Here is a scoring summary from the game.
In the first period, St. Louis scored on their very first shot. On a four-on-one. A total defensive breakdown. Philip Broberg scored for them. This was a dangerous game for the Islanders as it was a game they could dominate in every way but on the scoreboard.
In the second period, Dylan Holloway scored for the Blues. That gave them a 2-0 lead. He now has goals in five of his last seven games, and he has points in four straight games. Then Jimmy Snuggerud scored for the Blues, which gave them a 3-0 lead. Finally, JG Pageau scored for the Islanders. That cut the St. Louis lead to 3-1.
In the third period, Cal Ritchie scored for the Islanders to make it 3-2. He scored right after he was high-sticked, drawing a four-minute penalty. That was an own goal. Then Horvat scored for the Islanders to tie the game to tie the game at 3-3. That was his 28th goal of the season, tying his total from last season.
In overtime, Mat Barzal scored to win it for the Islanders 4-3. They are now 10-0 in overtime.
Player of the Game
The player of the game was Schenn. He played this game in St. Louis just four days after getting traded to the Islanders. The real player of the game was the Blues’ goaltender, Joel Hofer. On the recent four-game road trip, he was 4-0 with a .942 save percentage. He kept right on going in this game as he saved the first 28 shots for St. Louis.
Turning Point of the Game
The turning point of this game was the third goal for St. Louis in the second period. At that point, like in previous games, there was no chance the Islanders were going to score four goals. Even though the Blues had a goal taken off the board, and the Islanders scored, there was still very little chance the Islanders were going to win. Nevertheless, they did.
