Patrick Kane became the 50th NHL player to reach the milestone of scoring 500 goals on Thursday night when the Detroit Red Wings beat the Vancouver Canucks, 5-1.

He is the fifth American-born NHL player to reach 500 goals. He joins Mike Modano (561), Keith Tkachuk (538), Jeremy Roenick (513), and Joe Mullen (502). Brett Hull was a dual citizen of the United States, but he was born in Canada, played internationally for the United States, and had 741 goals.
Kane scored his 500th goal on an empty net goal with 3:53 seconds left in the third period. He said after the game, he was relieved to get the goal over with. Normally, during empty net goal situations, he is not on the ice. He got the opportunity to be a part of the empty net goal situation and ended up scoring.
