New York Rangers Star Leaves Practice Early Before 2026 Olympic Break Concludes

New York Rangers goalie Jonathan Quick

The New York Rangers have been unable to get much going throughout the season. In a year that appears to be lost, they have seen some key players not be able to get on the ice. With the Olympic break getting ready to wrap up, and the unofficial second half of the NHL season getting ready to begin, the Rangers may be without another star player. Let’s take a deeper dive into who it is and what happened.

The New York Rangers see Jonathan Quick leave practice with an injury

The New York Rangers have been struggling this season, and the goaltending has been one of the reasons why. With Igor Shesterkin still unable to suit up after suffering a lower-body injury earlier this season, they have called upon backup goalie Jonathan Quick to take the starting role.

Things may be a bit murky though, as Peter Baugh of The Athletic reported that Quick left Saturday’s practice early with what appeared to be a lower-body injury. The exit was later explained to be more of a precautionary move, but with a handful of days before the New York Rangers get back on the ice against the Philadelphia Flyers, this is not good news.

However, things have not looked too well for him as he has struggled to get much going this season. He is 4-14-2 with a 3.10 goals allowed average and a .890 save percentage. With this being a contract year for Quick, it is not the showing he would want. Dating back to when he took over the starting role, he is 1-8-1 with a .852 save percentage.

It will be intriguing to see if this is something to monitor, of if it is seemingly just precautionary. The New York Rangers may decide they want to cut bait with the 40-year-old goalie before the season ends if they want to see what else they have going forward. With the third-fewest points in the sport heading out of the Olympic break, it can be intriguing to see how the team decides to play out the remainder of the season either way.
