Top 5 NFL Teams Heading into Week 1
As the NFL season gets ready to kick off in just over six days from now, with a Thursday night match-up between heated rivals in the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, it seems an appropriate time to see who the best of the best is in the NFL heading into the 2025 season.
Now that the dust has settled in the aftermath of a whirlwind free agency period and one of the more intriguing drafts in recent memory, let’s examine and rank which five teams are the cream of the crop in the NFL this season.
Philadelphia Eagles: Top NFL Team Pick
It’d be a crime not to have the reigning Super Bowl champions sitting atop the power rankings. The Eagles had a season for the ages last year on both sides of the ball, sporting both one of the best rushing offenses ever, while also possessing the number one-ranked defense. Philly was also able to retain its key pieces from last year’s championship team.
This is something that typically doesn’t happen after a team wins the championship. While the Eagles will experience some growing pains on the offensive side of the ball with the departure of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, the overall strength of the roster will most certainly compensate for any perceived flaws in Philadelphia.
 Kansas City Chiefs
Although the Chiefs didn’t see much of an improvement to their overall roster talent this offseason, you can’t bet against a Patrick Mahomes-led team ever. The Chiefs, for the majority of their dynasty outside of their first Super Bowl win back in 2019, have never possessed an exceptionally talented roster. The foundation upon which this Kansas City dynasty has been built is the coaching ability of Hall of Fame coach Andy Reid.
The unwavering leadership of their superstar QB and the brilliance of their exceptional defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo. Although the Chiefs lost key players such as offensive line stalwart Joe Thuney, Kansas City will still find a way to be in the mix for the Super Bowl yet again.
Buffalo Bills
If it weren’t for the existence of the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, the Bills could very easily be the latest NFL dynasty instead. The Bills have been knocking on the door of the Super Bowl for the better part of the last several years, with two AFC title game appearances in the previous 4 years.
Much of that success can be attributed to their superstar QB and reigning league MVP, Josh Allen, and their terrific head coach, Sean McDermott. The combination of those two, along with the emergence of star running back James Cook, is expected to see Buffalo near the top of the AFC standings.
Baltimore Ravens
Similar in many ways to the Bills, the Baltimore Ravens have shown themselves to be title contenders since the day two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson put on a Ravens uniform. While the Ravens haven’t had the same postseason success as some of the other teams on this list, that hasn’t stopped them from being a legitimate threat.
It’d be a tall task to find a more complete roster than the Ravens currently possess. Although the Ravens have a Super Bowl-contending roster, it will ultimately be up to their superstar QB to exorcise some of the playoff demons that have haunted him to this point for the Ravens to hoist the Lombardi trophy finally.
 Green Bay Packers
Before the Micah Parsons trade, I had the Packers sitting just outside the top 5; however, with Parsons now on the roster, the Packers are significantly ahead of the second-best team in the NFC. Green Bay has been one of the more underrated teams in the NFL the past few years and has been a consistent playoff team since head coach Matt Lafluer took over in 2019.
The strength of the Packers’ roster lies in the coaching staff’s ability to maximize the potential of a young and talented team. Now that the Packers have a certifiable superstar that can bolster their defense heavily in Micah Parsons, don’t be surprised to see the cheeseheads giving Philly a fight for the title of the NFC’s best team this season.
