Tennessee Titans Restructure Calvin Ridley’s Contract, Keep Him Off the Free Agent Market
The Tennessee Titans and wide receiver Calvin Ridley agreed to a restructured contract Saturday, keeping the veteran pass-catcher in Nashville for the 2026 season, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The deal came together against a firm deadline. Ridley had a $2 million roster bonus due at 4 p.m. ET Saturday. That clock forced both sides to find common ground quickly, and they did. The full terms of the restructured deal have not been disclosed, though Ridley’s original cap number was set at $26.45 million with a base salary of $20.24 million.
For Ridley, it is another chapter in a career that has never been short on drama or production.
A Career That Has Seen Everything
Ridley was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Alabama. He broke out in 2020 with 90 catches for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns. Then came the hard years. He played only five games in 2021 due to mental health concerns, then missed the entire 2022 season after being suspended for betting on NFL games.
The football world wondered if they had seen the last of the real Calvin Ridley.
They had not. After a trade to the Jacksonville Jaguars and reinstatement to the league, Ridley recaptured his form in 2023. He started all 17 games for Jacksonville and finished with 76 catches for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns. It was a statement season, and the Titans took notice.
Ridley’s Road to Tennessee
Before the 2024 season, Ridley signed a four-year, $92 million contract with Tennessee. He rewarded that investment right away, catching 64 passes for 1,017 yards and four touchdowns while playing all 17 games. It was exactly what the Titans hoped for when they handed him that deal.
But 2025 did not go according to plan. Ridley suffered a fractured fibula and managed only seven games. He finished with 17 receptions for 303 yards and no touchdowns. Before the injury, though, there were glimpses of something special. In Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals, Ridley went off for five catches and 131 yards, showing what he and rookie quarterback Cam Ward could become together.
ESPN’s Turron Davenport reported in January that Ridley would “likely be a cap casualty.” Saturday proved that prediction wrong.
What This Means for Tennessee’s Offense
The Titans have not been standing still this offseason. They hired Robert Saleh as head coach and brought in Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator. Then they went to work in free agency.
The most notable addition at the receiver position is Wan’Dale Robinson, the former New York Giants slot receiver who signed a four-year, $78 million deal with Tennessee this week. Robinson and Ridley give the Titans a genuinely interesting receiver combination. Robinson works primarily from the slot, while Ridley is an outside threat. The two should complement each other without overlap.
Ridley will now join a receiver room that also includes Elic Ayomanor, Chimere Dike, Mason Kinsey and Bryce Oliver.
The Bigger Picture for Cam Ward
The real story here is what this means for Cam Ward entering his second season. The Titans used the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft on Ward, and the expectations around him are significant. A healthy Ridley paired with Robinson gives Ward weapons he did not fully have as a rookie.
Ward has seen what Ridley is capable of when healthy. Their five-catch, 131-yard afternoon in Week 5 was a preview. Now the question is whether the two can sustain that kind of production across a full season under a new coaching staff with a new offensive system.
The Titans restructured a contract to make sure they find out.
For Ridley personally, this is a chance to rewrite the final acts of his story on his own terms. He turns 32 this December. He has overcome suspension, injury, and doubt more than once. Saturday, with a roster bonus deadline looming and his future in Tennessee uncertain, he and the organization found a way to stay together.
That counts for something.
