Pittsburgh Steelers Draft Quarterback Will Howard No. 185 Overall
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Ohio State Quarterback Will Howard with the No. 185 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Howard is coming off a solid season for the Buckeyes. His performance helped the team win the National Championship earlier this year.
Howard transferred to the Buckeyes for his final year of eligibility following spending the first four seasons of his collegiate career with Kansas State. He was sixth in the nation in passing yards and fourth in passing touchdowns in 2024. He added 8 passing touchdowns in his four College Football Playoff games. How will Howard fit with the Pittsburgh Steelers?
Pittsburgh Steelers Draft Will Howard No. 185 Overall
Howard is the first quarterback the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted this year. The Steelers entered the draft in dire need of a quarterback. They opted to have Howard fill the void at the position. With the uncertainty surrounding Aaron Rodgers, the franchise opted for a late-round pick in Howard. He will have the opportunity to compete for the starting job in training with Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson the only other quarterbacks on the roster.
 Final Thoughts
Howard is expected to be a backup quarterback to begin his NFL career. While he was not one of the highly touted quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft, he illustrated he could compete at the top of the college football landscape in his lone season with Ohio State. He will look to fill the void in Pittsburgh’s quarterback room.
