Ewers was a seventh-round draft pick, and he made his first NFL start on Sunday. Ewers completed 20 of 30 passes for 260 yards with two interceptions. The Miami Dolphins kept the score close in the first half of the game before getting blown out 21-0 in the second half of the game.
After the game, McDaniel was asked if Ewers would remain the starting quarterback position and said that he would review the game and tape, but is planning on allowing him to continue his role at the starting position.
McDaniel made the quarterback change from Tagovailoa to Ewers after last week’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night football. Miami needed more “convicted play” from the quarterback position, and Ewers gave the team its best chance to win.
Ewers said he felt “calm” ahead of his first start and appreciated the support he received from his teammates and coaches throughout the week. Ewers also mentioned after the ugly loss that it is hard to win a football game with three turnovers.
