Breece Hall Has Interest In Joining The Broncos If He Hits Free Agency
Breece Hall is one of the best free agents this offseason, but it’s still unknown whether or not he’ll actually be available on the open market. General Manager Darren Mougey sounded confident in his ability to retain Hall, saying the franchise tag remains an option, but they hope to get a long-term deal done.
If he were to enter free agency, it sounds like the Denver Broncos would be atop his list of destinations. According to Luca Evans of the Denver Post, Breece Hall would have serious interest in joining the Denver Broncos if he does, in fact, become an unrestricted free agent. Hall has a relationship with Broncos running backs coach Lou Ayeni, back when Ayeni was recruiting him to Iowa State.
Hall Is Interested In Denver
While it still remains unrealistic that he becomes a free agent, the Broncos have once again been linked to Breece Hall. Denver hasn’t had a true elite running back in a very long time, and Hall fits the perfect “workhorse” mold that Sean Payton looks for in his offenses. He has totaled over 1,350 yards from scrimmage in each of his last three years in New York with the Jets.
Hall has been consistently excellent in both the receiving and running games, despite terrible quarterback play, which makes it even more impressive. If he were to be paired with someone like Bo Nix, his numbers would climb even higher. Denver is one of, if not the best fit for him if he were to hit the open market, but the Jets are going to do everything they can to stop that from happening.
Jets Want To Keep Breece
New York Jets General manager Darren Mougey made it clear on Tuesday at the NFL Combine that the plan is to retain their leading rusher, whether it’s with a new contract or the franchise or transition tag.
“Ideally, we’d find a way to get a deal done and keep Breece around,” Mougey told reporters at the combine. “I’ve said that for the past year since I got here. Breece is a good player, and we want to find a way to keep him around.
“We’ve been going through that process and are still doing so. We have a week to find out if we can’t get to an agreement, which way we’ll go with the tag.”
Nothing Mougey said at the combine came as a shock. We all knew that if New York was going to move on from Hall, a move would’ve been made at the trade deadline, but nothing materialized. The Jets have ample cap space this offseason and can allocate resources to using either the franchise ($14,293,000) or transition ($11,323,000) tag on Hall to keep him in New York, as they look to revamp their lackluster offense next season.
Will Denver Get More Weapons?
Even if they can’t go after Breece Hall, Denver has to be aggressive in every way possible to get Bo Nix a better supporting cast. We saw how bad the running back room was without JK Dobbins, and it ultimately cost them the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots.
There are plenty of options in free agency, along with the draft. Last year, they took their foot off the gas when it came to adding on offense, and they need to learn their lesson this offseason. If they can add an elite-level running back and a solid receiver to add to the depth, the Broncos will be in a prime position to make a run at a Super Bowl next season once Bo Nix is fully healthy.
