Breaking News: The Philadelphia Eagles Hire Former Packers QB Coach Sean Mannion as New Offensive Coordinator
The Philadelphia Eagles have finally found their new offensive coordinator after a two-week search, and it’s an interesting name: former NFL journeyman quarterback and Green Bay Packers QB coach Sean Mannion.
Mannion has been around coaches like Sean McVay, Kevin Stefanksi, Kevin O’Connell, Klint Kubiak, and Matt LeFleur over the last couple of years. He had a good eye test as a QB coach in the 2025 season, especially with how they had Malik Willis playing when Jordan Love was injured in a couple of games this season. This is not the veteran play caller that most fans wanted in Philadelphia, but this is a look towards innovation, and that could be a risk, but I love this hire as a fan and pure analyst.
What Happened
The Eagles had several candidates for second interviews, especially with some candidates that would have Philly exploded in rage, looking at you, Jim Bob Cooter. But the Eagles went with Mannion. The former QB coach is the hire that isn’t going to jump off the page as Mike McDaniel would have, but he doesn’t necessarily have to.
As long as he brings fresh concepts and ideas that this Eagles pass game desperately needs, and if he can figure out the importance of sequencing plays, this is going to be that home run hire that Philly fans want and most likely will stay for more than one season, probably to gain some continuity for Jalen Hurts. The move now has Green Bay searching for a Quarterback coach.
Reactions
Philly fans are ecstatic about this news, even though it isn’t the guy who has the most playcalling experience because of the offenses that he has been around. Although some fans don’t like the hire, most fans have a positive reaction to the hire.
Green Bay Packers fans are now panicking because of what he did, as the QB coach is now going to be in Philly, and some are disappointed with the current Packers OC and wanted Mannion to be the Packers OC instead of him.
What Happens Next
Now, Philadelphia will navigate the rest of the offseason to see how they can fix the 2026 offense as a whole with the new coach in place, while the Packers are beginning the search for a new QB coach. Things that the Eagles will have to navigate include, “What to do with AJ Brown?” “Potential Bombshell that Adam Schefter hinted at the other day on Philly Radio?” Fixing the O-Line health, etc.
