Eagles Decline Jahan Dotson’s 5th-Year Option
The Philadelphia Eagles are declining Jahan Dotson’s fifth-year option, putting the former Penn State wide receiver in a contract year in 2025, via Fox Sports Jordan Schultz. Dotson was the Eagles’ slot receiver last season and was hardly used in the passing game, but had a couple of key plays in the Eagles’ Super Bowl run in the Playoffs. He is going to have to prove himself even more so now with this news breaking.
Jahan Dotson 2024 Numbers and Evaluation
Dotson only had 19 receptions for 216 yards in the 2024 regular season. He had three receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown in the 2024 postseason. The Eagles invested three draft picks, including a third-round pick, to grab the Nittany Lion from their division rival, the Commanders. So far, it’s looking like Washington won the trade when you strictly look at the production of 2024 of the 5-foot-11 wideout, hence Philly not accepting the fifth-year option, making the most sense financially.
He is going to have to step it up even more, with the potential Dallas Goedert trade rumors getting louder and louder throughout this week. With the NFL Draft being tomorrow night, this Dotson news comes at a good time for GM Howie Roseman to plan around this draft. Most players perform well during contract years, and we will have to see if Dotson steps up like he did at times in 2024
Final Thoughts
The third-round pick is already worth it from the Eagles’ perspective because they were able to bring home the Lombardi trophy with Dotson’s services. But the move to not accept the fifth-year option opens more financial responsibilities from the organization’s perspective and gives the team options with some picks in this week’s NFL Draft.
Meanwhile, for Dotson as a player, he is going to have to step up in a contract year to prove himself worthy to either stay with the Eagles or get bigger money elsewhere in 2026. Total Apex Sports is the place to be for more NFL news like this, and more especially during the NFL Draft coverage the rest of this week.
