Drew Brees Sparks Controversy with Bold Eagles Critique, Ignites NFL Debate Over Undefeated Teams and Style Points
Former NFL quarterback Drew Brees took to the airwaves on the last day of September to bash the Philadelphia Eagles. “I know Philly’s undefeated, but barely. Barely! If CeeDee catches a post in Week 1, and if the Rams make a chip-shot field goal, they’re sitting at 2-2. They are not the best team in the NFL,” Brees stated.
Brees mentioned this on ESPN’s First Take. If he was looking for attention, he found it. I mean if you dog on the Arizona Cardinals, no one is really going to care. But go after someone in the town of Philly, you’d better watch out, because you will be booed out of town even if you are Santa Claus.

This is Week Two of the Brees Criticism
After NFL Week 3, Brees started his slow burn against the Eagles. He said the offense is boring.
To be fair, last week was a good time to bash on the Philadelphia Eagles. Bettors of real money and online prognosticators certainly were not happy to see Eagles DT Jordan Davis running to the end zone after a blocked kick to move the betting line from a win if you picked the Rams and +3, to a loss as the score ended in a 33-26 Eagles win. Maybe Brees had a bet on the game. Maybe he lost money.
Perhaps he still harbors strong feelings over this. But that was last week, and he decided to double down on his Eagles criticism this week. Which leads to the question – Why? This past weekend, NFL Week 4, the Eagles were up 24-3 right before halftime. They went into the locker room with a 24-6 lead after Buccaneers kicker Chase McLaughlin made a 65-yard field goal. So, up to this point, the Eagles are 3-0, and they would have been up by 21 points if not for a shall we say rare, very rare field goal.
Where is the luck at this point? Who is better than the Eagles? A blocked field goal to win a game used to mean the team was resilient; they found ways to win. They never give up. They never say die. Oh, wait, that was so 2024 and we were talking about the Kansas City Chiefs when they preserved their undefeated record in Week 10 against the Denver Broncos.
Is A Second Half Near Comeback By the Bucs Reason Enough For the Brees Opinion?
If I got a dollar for every time I heard in a press conference or post game interview how hard it is to win in the NFL, I would have enough money to pay my Rams-Eagles debt off. Winning in the NFL is hard. A team can lose 7 times and will likely make the playoffs. Therefore, why would Brees look at the Bucs’ near comeback, and use that as ammunition to state his case about not being the best team in the NFL? Baker Mayfield and the Bucs get paid too. They put on a furious attack and came up short, and the final score was 31-23.
Now let’s go back to last week’s criticism. He stated: “I can’t stand to watch that offense. It’s the most boring offense. It is. I’m sorry.” Style points should not be part of the formula to pick the top team in the NFL, the wins and losses should. This is not college football. Oh, sorry, this is not college football pre-2024.
Well, it is good Brees said he is sorry. He should practice that word for his next Philadelphia visit. Heck, even nationally many are wondering if Brees has a selective memory, and forgot how hard it is to win in the NFL.
Look, some of us have 100 reasons to not like the Eagles this year. Some of us have 350 reasons not to like Jordan Davis. But we realize it is time to move on and look at this team with admiration. To talk smack when the team is undefeated this year, had just three losses and a Super Bowl win last year, We should be talking about the amazing work of this organization.
Why drop shade on this team right now? It does not make any sense.
