Eagles Land Dontayvion Wicks in Stunning Trade

Wicks vs the Lions in November

The Philadelphia Eagles made a stunning trade on Friday that will leave fans wondering about AJ Brown’s status even more now, because it involved former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks.

The Eagles acquired Wicks in a trade with the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick. Wicks signed an extension with the Eagles for 1 year, $12M. Here’s a quick breakdown of what the deal will mean for the Eagles moving forward.

The Wicks Move Might Be a Sign That AJ Brown Might Be Moved

This move is getting another taller receiver on the roster, as Wicks is listed at 6’1”, 206 pounds, meaning he and AJ Brown are similar builds. Wicks is a talented receiver who just couldn’t get enough burn in a deep/young wide receiver room in Green Bay. He arguably would go to an Eagles WR room that is also crowded if AJ Brown is still on the roster. And I would be a miss by saying I want the Eagles to keep AJ Brown on this Eagles squad for the 2026 season.

But moves like this fuel the AJ Brown rumors, even though some Eagles fans, including myself, thought that when the Dianna Russini stuff came out with her and Mike Vrabel might have extinguished that fire for good for the time being. But if the Eagles do trade Brown, Wicks brings a great positive; he was with Sean Mannion last season, and could be a helpful translator of possible verbiage of the scheme. Speaking of, here’s some more on that connection.

The Sean Mannion Aspect

The Eagles are getting a former Packers WR who was in the LaFleur system last year, where Mannion was the QB coach last season. If the Eagles want to adapt that system to their offense for the 2026 season, this move makes a ton of sense in that regard, as Wicks can be an easy translator to the rest of the offense, especially the rest of the wide receivers.

So I think this is a great move that could be beneficial in the long run, especially if the Eagles trade Brown, but I also think that Wicks can contribute even if Brown is still in Philly.
