Browns Exec Dave Jenkins Elevated to President of Haslam Sports Group
Dave Jenkins is the name to know Browns fans (and maybe some Bucks and Crew fans too), there’s some front-office shuffling happening, and he is at the center of it all. After a casual 22 years of climbing the ranks, Jenkins has been promoted to the role of President at Haslam Sports Group (HSG). If this were a fairytale, Jenkins just reached the castle, but instead of “happily ever after,” he’s likely staring down piles of spreadsheets and high-stakes strategic planning.
Dave Jenkins’ New Role in the Big Leagues
Jenkins has held more job titles at the Browns than a Swiss Army knife has functions. Starting out in 2004 as a financial and business analyst, he’s since worn hats like VP of Finance, CFO, and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Now, as President of HSG, he’s tasked with steering the business operations and strategic vision for the Cleveland Browns, Columbus Crew, Milwaukee Bucks, and various other sports and entertainment ventures under the HSG umbrella.
For those of you keeping score, that’s three major pro leagues under his purview. If Jenkins isn’t neck-deep in budgets, stadium plans, and franchise evaluations, we’ll believe he’s found an eighth day in the week we mortals aren’t privy to.
HSG Success and Big Moves
Under Jenkins’ watch, HSG didn’t just stick to the script; they branched out big-time. There was the acquisition of Columbus Crew’s investor-operator rights in 2020, as well as locking down a controlling share of the Milwaukee Bucks in 2023 (a franchise carrying its own championship-caliber swagger). It’s fair to say the guy knows how to make needle-moving deals.
He’s also no stranger to tackling monumental projects. At the moment, he’s spearheading the Browns‘ future stadium planning process. Rumor has it HSG is looking to build an enclosed Huntington Bank Field in Brook Park, designing what will presumably be an all-weather football haven for Cleveland. Not to mention, he’s overseeing updates at the CrossCountry Mortgage Campus in Berea. Rest assured, Jenkins is seeing more construction blueprints than most architects these days.
Leadership That Works (Literally)
Dee and Jimmy Haslam, the managing partners of HSG, didn’t hold back on the compliments. They praised Jenkins for his role in assembling a dream team of execs across the organization, combining results-driven focus with solid teamwork. It’s clear they’re handing him the reins not because they like him (though they clearly do), but because he’s earned it.
Sure, the praise is certainly deserved, but you can’t help but imagine the pressure mounting, too. After all, the decisions Jenkins makes at the top level trickle all the way down to how fans enjoy their teams. No biggie, right?
The Human Side of the Exec
Jenkins isn’t just a suit climbing the corporate ladder. He’s a Cleveland guy at heart, a Baldwin Wallace University grad, and dedicated to giving back to the community. He’s serving on multiple boards, including the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and the Cleveland Browns Foundation. Add in a Strongsville home life with his family, and you wonder when this guy even sleeps.
For someone with so much on his plate, Jenkins seems grounded. It’s not every day you find a corporate officer who’s just as comfortable balancing the books as he is being a face of community-driven sports initiatives.
A Legacy in the Making
22 years is a long time to stick with any organization, and Jenkins’ promotion is proof of hard work, vision, and a relentless ability to evolve. Whether it’s making critical investment decisions or blowing the whistle on Cleveland’s next stadium project, he’s showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
For HSG, this might just be the guy to anchor their ambitions as they stretch out their wings across the sports and entertainment world. And for Jenkins? It’s one hell of a legacy-in-progress that Browns fans might be applauding for years to come (as long as all this business genius translates into more trophies, of course).
