Dallas Cowboys Release Star Player Before Week 18
The Dallas Cowboys have been struggling to figure things out this season, but will be without one of their top players going forward. There have been a lot of rumblings coming out of Jerry World about cornerback Trevon Diggs, and there is now some official movement regarding his status. Let’s take a closer look at what happened between the team and the former All-Pro corner.
Dallas Cowboys Officially Release CB Trevon Diggs

ESPN’s Todd Archer is reporting that the Cowboys are releasing cornerback Trevon Diggs. If he is not picked up on waivers, he will become an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team. However, if he were to be claimed, that team would be on the hook for $472,000 this week in base salary and just under $59,000 if he is on the active roster. Following that, he has no guaranteed money remaining on the contract.
Diggs signed a five-year, $97 million contract with the Cowboys but has not been able to remain healthy. He has played in 21 games throughout the previous three seasons and has struggled in coverage. It will be intriguing to see if a playoff team is interested in claiming him for the postseason to help their secondary for a chance at the Super Bowl.
If Diggs was able to return to his former status, he would be a Pro Bowl-level cornerback, while also being named as the 2021 All-Pro for the position. Teams always need help in the secondary, so do not be surprised to see him get claimed rather quickly.
