Indiana Colts Wide Receiver Josh Downs Out For Week 7 Game
The Indianapolis Colts took a blow on Friday with slot Wide Receiver Josh Downs being ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The team will look for second-year player AD Mitchell to step up in his place. That will be a tough ask after the disappointing game from him in the loss to the Los Angeles Rams. It will be interesting to see who else the team will bring up from the practice squad for the game.
Colts Will Use Wide Receiver By Committee On Sunday
The injury bug has started on the Colts’ offense now, with Josh Downs and Ashton Dulin being downgraded to out on Sunday. Who will step up? Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce will lead the way, with Mitchell getting a chance to win the team’s trust back this week after that nightmare game against the Rams.
There is also the possibility of the team elevating LaQuon Treadwell and Coleman Owen off the practice squad to add some depth to the position. I believe that this week, Tight End Tyler Warren will be the third-down option with Downs being out.
It will be very hard to replace the effect Downs has on third down. This could be the week that Warren goes for over 100 yards. It will be very hard to replace that production with how great Downs is in the slot position. In 2024, Downs was targeted 39 times on third or fourth down. He caught 23 of those passes, with 19 of them being first downs.
Final Thoughts
The Colts play the Chargers in Los Angeles on Sunday at 4:25 on CBS. This is a very big game with the winner taking first place in the AFC. Stay tuned to Total Apex for all the latest NFL news all season long.
