Broncos 4th Quarter Gives Eagles 1st Loss of 2025
The Eagles once again still can’t click for a full game offensively, as there was some good offense in this game, but the inconsistencies reared it’s ugly head again, as the run game was once again the weakness again, and this time it cost them at the end of the day. The Run Game is now what the media is going to be targeting moving forward. There’s plenty of time for the Eagles to correct their issues, but now, with the loss, might be the time to actually coach this offense up to where the defense is.
Kevin Patullo Completely Abandoned the Run, and Missed Opportunities were the Keys to the Loss.

IN THE SECOND HALF, the Eagles had 24 plays; they called 23 passing plays and ONLY 1 run. Saquon Barkley only had six carries all game long; that’s the definition of coaching malpractice to say the least. This is still an issue of identity. The offense was outbalanced, especially up 14 points in the second half against a team that was struggling against your defense until the fourth.
Jalen Hurts played a good game with his stats, but the lack of execution at certain moments killed this offense once again, like the two missed deep passes to AJ Brown and Jahan Dotson. I think Kevin Patullo is on thin ice right now and has to improve a lot on a short week against a Giants team that’s coming off a loss to the Saints.
Landon Dickerson Gets Hurt Again
Landon Dickerson left this game with an ankle injury. This might be enough for him to miss a game or two to get his body right. Dickerson hasn’t been his normal self as of late, so this latest injury might be a blessing in disguise for the long run. The Eagles are going to be on a short week, so it will be interesting to see if Dickerson suits up in MetLife.
The Refs’ Inconsistencies Ruined this game
With this takeaway, I’m not making an excuse for the Eagles losing this game because of the Refs, because the offensive execution late in this game and the lack of adjustments were the main reasons. BUT the Intentional Grounding call that gets picked up on replay assists was horrible, the Baun penalty was a bang-bang play, and there should have been a pass interference call on Goedert before the failed Hail Mary at the end that was almost caught.
The missed opportunities by Philly were more of the obvious reason why the Eagles lost, but the matter of those calls being in high leverage situations and not being executed right, makes you wonder a bit about Adrian Hill’s crew today. Again, Denver fans, y’all won the game, full credit, but the fact that those calls are bang-bang and the game shouldn’t have to come down to the black stripes. Hill had this to say after the game about the intentional grounding call, which is misleading because replay assist came in to reverse the call.
Referee Adrian Hill on picking up the Intentional Grounding flag: “So what happened there, we have an 020 – that's our official-to-official communication system. My 020 was not working. Grounding is a teamwork foul. I had intentional grounding. The line judge had that there was a… pic.twitter.com/R7h5B917YV

Final Thoughts
Saquon Barkley: “Now we have adversity. Real adversity. We lost a football game.. We got a lot of guys banged up, we gotta get healthy and come to work.. We have a super competitive team, it’s not gonna sit well with anyone in this locker room, and we’ll get better from it.” pic.twitter.com/4m1MqGWjVQ

If Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown connect on that potential long touchdown, where all of the momentum seems to be lost, this is a different article completely. But I think the Eagles needed this loss to have some important meetings and decisions about this offensive identity. Just look at the Tampa Bay loss last season, for instance. After that loss, it was when every started to click.
It remains to be seen with this 2025 Eagles team is going to look like after their first loss, but Philly fans, including myself, need to remember that this team has great leaders and have faith they will figure it out eventually. Look at the following tweet featuring Saquon’s quotes after the game about adversity!
