Brock Purdy Focused on A Great Locker Room and Team Amid New Extension

The San Francisco 49ers are putting a lot of faith in quarterback Brock Purdy after signing him to a 5-year, 256 million contract extension last week. According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, 165 million of the contract will be handed out to Purdy in the first three years of the deal. 

Brock Purdy is Focused on Keeping a Great Locker Room and Culture 

According to Purdy, it wasn’t all about the money when signing long-term in San Francisco. Purdy said, “It’s not just for me to get all the money, as much as I can, but also let’s surround yourself with a great team and players and a great locker room.” Purdy and the 49ers system have seemed like a match made in heaven.

His success has also been reflected since becoming the team’s starter in 2023. He led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in his first year as a starter. He was the last pick of the 2022 NFL draft and the third-string quarterback going into his rookie season. It’s been a journey for him to get where he is now, and he recognizes that. 

Brock Purdy’s Success Earned him This Deal

As San Francisco’s starter, Purdy boasts two NFC championship appearances and a Super Bowl Appearance. With that being said, new challenges are on the horizon. The club traded top wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders earlier in the offseason, eliminating one of Purdy’s top weapons from his first three years in the league. 

San Francisco’s cap problems forced them to move on from Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga. Despite these losses, the 49er’s defense will remain strong this season, as they resigned Fred Warner and Nick Bosa. On the offensive side, Christian McCaffrey is still there as well, so the 49ers still have weapons. 

The Outlook for Brock Purdy Next Season

Brock Purdy will have fewer weapons than in years past, so the expectations for him will perhaps be higher than they’ve ever been. Adding to that will be his new massive contract extension. The notion around Purdy since he’s been in the league is that he’s a talented quarterback. However, a product of the weapons around him and head coach Kyle Shanahan’s system. 49ers fans will look for Brock Purdy to make a statement and prove it’s his team, field, and city. NFL fans will hopefully see Purdy ball out and take his game to a level they haven’t seen before
