Shock Before the 2026 Draft: Zachariah Branch Facing Misdemeanor Charges
After the Georgia Spring Game in Athens, one of the top wide receiver prospects, Zachariah Branch, was arrested early Sunday morning for obstructing public sidewalks/streets-prowling and obstruction of a law enforcement officer, as the Athens Banner-Herald reported.
Branch is currently slated to be a Day 2 Pick right now in the 2026 NFL Draft, but this might deal a blow to the draft stock of the former Trojan, Bulldog superstar. Branch, in my opinion, is an interesting prospect in this draft class because he can be a dynamic target in the slot for a team. Here’s a breakdown of this story in more detail and how it could impact his stock.
The Incident In Question About Branch
Once ESPN broke the story, the NFL network’s Tom Pelissero would provide more details on the reporting that goes along with the reporting from the Athens Banner Herald. Embedded below is the full statement from the Clarke County Police as acquired by the NFL Network from Pelissaro’s X account…
If everything happened in this incident regarding the Branch situation happened the way that police report details, this is not the greatest look for him heading into his NFL career, and continues the Georgia Bulldog tradition of character issues before the draft in the Kirby Smart era, just like the Jalen Carter situation before the Eagles drafted him in 2023. But I don’t think this misdemeanor is really going to impact his draft stock that badly because it’s a misdemeanor, as I do think he’ll be a Day 2 pick.
Where Branch Goes From Here
He might have a court date back in Georgia to address the charges in maybe a fine or something like that during his NFL offseason program now, but he should be a great prospect for a team because of his dynamics at the receiver spot. As we wait for more information on the situation, I encourage you to follow along with Total Apex Sports, as we will update when more information comes out on Branch.
