49ers Wide Receiver Suspended Three Games
The San Francisco 49ers will be down wide receiver Demarcus Robinson at the start of the season due to violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He will be suspended for three games that are against the Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, and Arizona Cardinals.
49ers Demarcus Robinson Suspended Three Games
The NFL announced the ban on Tuesday before rosters had to be cut down to 53 players. The 49ers do not need to use a roster spot for Robinson until after the third game of the season on Sept. 21. The 49ers are depending on Robinson this season to help their receiving core, but he has gotten into trouble this offseason with pleading no contest last month to a misdemeanor DUI charge.
He appealed the ruling but ended up having to serve the three-game ban. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told KNBR in San Francisco that Robinson was suspended but going through the appeals process. That appeals process failed, and now the veteran wideout is suspended.
The San Francisco 49ers traded Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders, and Brandon Aiyuk is sidelined with a knee injury for at least the first month of the season. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings is also sidelined with a calf injury and was not present during training camp or preseason. Robinson had 31 catches, 505 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns last season with the Los Angeles Rams.
Final Thoughts: 49ers Wide Receiving Troubles
The 49ers are in a world of wide receiving troubles with other players hurt with injuries, and now Robinson is out on a three-game suspension. Head coach Kyle Shanahan will have to rely on depth and running back Christian McCaffrey to get them by until Robinson comes back and Aiyuk is cleared to play. It will be a rough start for Brock Purdy and the 49ers this season as they are no longer the NFC reigning superpower that owned the NFC and the NFC West.
