New York Yankees Superstar Open To In-Season Contract Talks

New York Yankees Juan Soto

The New York Yankees are off to a blistering start in 2024. Currently, they sit atop the American League East and have already hit 30 wins. A big part of the success has been the play of Juan Soto. The team traded for the star slugger and have not been disappointed. However, he is playing in the final year of his deal, and many players cease negotiations during the season. Soto revealed he is open to talks if the Yankees want to have them.

Greg Joyce of the New York Post was the first to report that Juan Soto is open to being with the New York Yankees for a long time.

“My door has always been open. Whenever he wants to start talking with Scott [Boras] and all those people, they’re always open to hear whatever he has. For me, I just focus on the game right now.”

“If they want to call Scott and start talking about it, it’s up to them. Scott, they know his phone number and everything. They know where to call. For me right here, I’m focusing on playing baseball. My thing is try to help the team to win as many games as we can and try to focus on winning a championship.”

With the season Juan Soto is having, it might behoove the New York Yankees to get something done. In 2024, he has a .310/.408/.530 slash line, nine home runs, 34 RBI, and four stolen bases. His resume also speaks for itself. He won a World Series with Washington and has four Silver Slugger awards already. What will it take to lock up Soto?

Another Massive Contract Incoming?

Shohei Ohtani’s contract will likely make it difficult to get a star player on a team-friendly deal. In 2022, reports said that Juan Soto turned down a 15-year, $440 million offer from the Nationals. This gives you an idea of what type of contract he is looking for. Soto is only 25 years old and has plenty of prime years left. The New York Yankees also have one of the most friendly ballparks for left-handed hitters.

The New York Yankees will get something done with Juan Soto. Management has already stated they want him to retire in New York, and the team has deep pockets. It has been too long since the historic team won the World Series, and the front office is looking to get back to being a perennial contender.
