New York Mets Put Together Wonderful Game To Defeat Reds 4-0

The New York Mets won their ninth straight game on Saturday.

After a weather delay that lasted approximately an hour, both the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets were sluggish out of the gates this afternoon. New York’s offense was especially slow to get going. Cincinnati’s offense never got going as they were only able to muster three hits. New York was held hitless for 3.2 innings, but their offense came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning. New York scored four runs in the half inning.

Center Fielder Harrison Bader got the scoring started with a solo home run, First Baseman Pete Alonso added an RBI single, and Designated Hitter J.D Martinez had a bases-clearing double to clinch the victory for the New York Mets this evening. The Mets won 4-0 for their ninth straight win. How long will the New York Mets be able to extend their winning streak?

New York Mets Starting Pitcher Jose Quintana was great in this game. He tossed 6.1 scoreless innings and struck out six. New York’s bullpen was also on their game as well in this one. They tossed 2.1 scoreless innings and surrendered only one hit. Mets Closer Edwin Diaz had to wiggle out of a bit of a jam but induced a pop up from Cincinnati Reds Third Baseman Santiago Espinal with runners on first and second base to secure the victory.

Cincinnati Reds Starting Pitcher Jakob Junis was stellar during his time in the game but was let down by his bullpen. Junis tossed five scoreless innings while only surrendering one hit and punching out five. He lowered his ERA to a spectacular 2.82 on the year. Cincinnati’s bullpen on the other hand was not sharp. They surrendered four earned runs in only three innings tonight.

Looking Ahead To Tomorrow’s Game

The New York Mets send Starting Pitcher Luis Severino(10-6, 3.84 ERA) to the mound as they go for a series sweep at Citi Field on Sunday afternoon. Severino is coming off a great start on Monday against the Boston Red Sox. He surrendered one earned over a dazzling seven innings. At the time of publication, Cincinnati has not announced a starting pitcher for tomorrow’s game. The New York Mets will look to extend their winning streak to double digits tomorrow.

The last time the Mets had a winning streak of 10+ games was from July 5 to July 17, 2008. The MLB All-Star break fell in between New York’s ninth and 10th victory. Ironically, it was the Cincinnati Reds that broke NY’s winning steak on July 18, 2008. The Mets do not want history to repeat itself on Sunday.
