On Saturday, New York Mets reliever Yohan Ramirez threw a pitch behind Rhys Hoskins in Saturday’s game Hoskins has had a history of playing against the New York Mets as was a member of the Philadelphia Phillies for six years. Ramirez tried throwing a sinker on the mound that looked to be intentional according to both Hoskins and Major League Baseball. Yohan Ramirez did not execute his pitch in the spot that he wanted to. Ramirez gave up five hits, and two earned runs in the series against the Brewers.
New York Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza was suspended by the league for one game as well. As a result, Ramirez chose to appeal the suspension brought on by the league office. He felt like the pitch behind Hoskins was not intentional unlike how others saw it happen. The relief pitcher was able to play in Sunday’s game for the Mets as the appeal is currently under review.
New York Mets 2024 Season
The New York Mets signed JD Martinez to a one-year deal worth $12 million this offseason. He brings a ton of power to the batting lineup but went into a hitting slump in 2023. New York has had injury trouble since spring training, thus leading to their rough start to open the season. Luis Severino, Jose Quintana, and Tylor Megill all handled pitching duties against Milwaukee.
The amount of runs given up hurt the New York Mets, which led to losses in all three games. Next, the team will face the Detroit Tigers in another three-game home skid. Detroit is off to a great start as they remain undefeated through their first few games. New York will have to lock in on the pitching mound and get their bats going for a chance to beat the Detroit Tigers at Citi Field to begin the month of April.
