New York Mets Narrowly Avoid No-Hit Bid On May 11

The New York Mets narrowly escaped being no-hit on Saturday.

It took until the final batter of the game, but the New York Mets escaped being no-hit on Saturday afternoon by the skin of their teeth. Down to their final out of the game, Designated Hitter J.D. Martinez hit a solo home run off Raisel Iglesias of the Atlanta Braves. New York recorded two hits in the bottom of the ninth, and Third Baseman Brett Baty left runners on first and second base to end the game. Even after such an anemic offensive performance through eight innings, the New York Mets had a chance in the bottom of the ninth.

One of the few positives from the New York Mets 4-1 loss is the fact they drew six walks in the game. New York struck out eight times in Saturday’s game as well. How will the Mets bounce back in Sunday night’s game?

Breaking Down The Braves 4-1 Victory

Atlanta Braves Starting Pitcher Max Fried turned in a masterful performance earlier today at Citi Field. He tossed six scoreless innings and struck out six batters. He issued three free passes as well but was able to work around them to keep his line clean. Relief Pitcher Joe Jimenez pitched a scoreless eighth inning before turning things over to Iglesias for the final three outs. Iglesias was the thing standing between the Atlanta Braves and a spot in the history books. Atlanta was gunning for their first n0-hitter since 1994 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The biggest scare for the Braves today was in the bottom of the seventh inning when First Baseman Pete Alonso hit a rocket to center field that was snagged by Atlanta’s center fielder as he simultaneously crashed into the wall.

New York Mets Side Of The Equation

The Mets received a solid outing from Starting Pitcher Christian Scott. He tossed six innings and surrendered three earned runs while striking out eight batters. On many afternoons, this type of start would be good enough for a win or a no-decision. Saturday was not that kind of day as Scott got no help whatsoever from his offense. Following six innings of work from Scott, Sean Reid-Foley recorded two scoreless innings and Jorge Lopez surrendered one run in the ninth inning.

What To Expect In Tomorrow’s Game

The final game of the three-game set will be broadcast nationally on ESPN at 7;00 PM ET. Bryce Elder takes the mound for the Braves while Luis Severino toes the slab for the New York Mets. The New York Mets will look to bounce back in a little less than 24 hours and try to avoid a series sweep at the hands of their divisional rivals.
