The Netherlands continued their Nations League campaign against the difficult German Side. The Dutch had started their first Nations League game against Bosnia and Herzegovina during the weekend. They were however able to breeze past Bosnia. Ronald Koeman’s side won 5-2 comfortably. With the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Cody Gapko, and Weghorst all entering the scoresheet. Germany who was their next opponent crushed the Hungarians 5-0. This made the fixture between both European giants a cracker.
Ronald Koeman had already given a hint of his possible lineup, pointing out that he’ll drop Manchester United’s star Zirkzee who was on the scoresheet twice against Bosnia ahead of the game. This was to give Brian Brobbey’s a start. In the aftermath, the Former Barcelona coach didn’t have to regret it as the Ajax forward made a strong impact. In the end, Germany and the Netherlands had to settle for a stalemate.
Netherlands vs. Germany First Half

Oranje started the game with extreme intensity, and in barely 2 minutes they broke the German defensive line. VerBruggen’s delivery saw a beautiful hold-up play from Brobbey, who then lays off Gravenberch. The Liverpool star in return wasted no time in sending a defense-splitting pass to an unmarked Reinjders. The AC Milan man finished it off beyond Ter Stegen. The Netherlands could have doubled in quick succession, after another beautiful long pass from the Gravenberch found Xavi Simons, however, the Leipzig forward couldn’t beat Ter Stegen.
Germany pushed forward for an Equalizer however it took them more than 30 minutes later to find a response. A poor pass from De Ligt got caught and switched into a quick counter for the Germans. With the Netherlands failing to deal with the challenge, Undav pounced on the free ball to make it 1-1. Germany soon got the momentum as a fine assist from Undav found Kimmich who gave Germany the lead.
Netherlands vs. Germany: 2nd Half
Germany looked to extend the lead however the Dutch side maintained compactness as they lay in wait for their chance. After 5 minutes into the 2nd half, the opportunity came. Gravenberch intercepts a German attack, and in return creates an attacking opportunity for the Netherlands. Brobbey gets on the end of it, and he squares it to an unmarked Dumfries who delivers the equalizer.
Both teams looked to find the winner. However, they were unable. Substitutions were made to save the legs of some players, reducing the intensity of the game. In the end, the two European giants had to settle for a draw.
Man of the Match display
Both teams had equally shown their capabilities. From Germany’s end, the likes of Musiala and Wirtz didn’t find it easy in the game. However, Denis Undav was Germany’s big guy, as he was able to score and provide an assist.
In the Dutch team, Brobbey was a dominant factor in the team, as Ajax man was involved in the first goal and provided an assist for the 2nd. Liverpool’s star Gravenberch was also phenomenal as he helped the Netherlands create a wide range of attacking options, with possession recoveries and passes. In the end, he had an assist to his name.
