Stephen Curry sets a Finals Record and Karl Malone Named MVP
In Game 2 of the Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State’s Stephen Curry sank nine three-pointers in a 122-103 win, breaking Ray Allen’s record for most three-pointers in an NBA Finals. Utah’s Karl Malone is named league MVP for the 1998-99 season. He previously won the award for his performance during the 1996-97 season. He became the ninth player in NBA history to win the Maurice Podoloff Trophy twice.
 MJ in the First Half
Michael Jordan, who finished with a game-high 39 points, set NBA Finals records for points scored in a half (35) and three-pointers made in a half (six). Host Chicago defeated Portland 122-89 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. After the sixth three-pointer, Jordan turned to the midcourt television camera and shrugged as if to say, “I guess it’s all going to go in.” Watch it here.
Magic Johnson Sets Final Assist Record and Bill Walton Rebounds
The Los Angeles Lakers defeated Boston 137-104 in Game 3 of a championship series. Magic Johnson dished out an NBA Finals-record 21 assists, and the Celtics ultimately won in seven games. Portland’s Bobby Gross scored 25 points, while center Bill Walton grabbed 24 rebounds, leading the Blazers to a 110-104 victory over the Sixers in a crucial Game 5 of the NBA Finals in Philadelphia.
