The Golden State Warriors Might Be In Shambles By 2027; What Should They Do?
The Golden State Warriors look to be heading down the wrong path. They do not have much young talent outside of Brandin Podziemski. The only other valuable young piece that they have is Jonathan Kuminga, who doesn’t even want to be in Golden State anymore because of the way that Head Coach Steve Kerr uses him. It is hard to say where this team will be over the next couple of seasons, but as of right now, things are not looking good.
Should Changes Happen To Help the Future?
With Kuminga looking like his time is coming to an end in Golden State, dreams of winning a championship with the current roster as constructed seem to be almost impossible. Stephen Curry is turning 38 this season, Jimmy Butler will be 36 at the start of the season, and Draymond Green turning 36 is not a place the team wants to be. If anything happens to one of those guys throughout the season, they don’t have much to fall back on. They lack a lot of depth to be considered championship contenders.
Would it be best to consider trading your most prized possession so you can have some type of sustainability moving forward? No one knows how much time Curry has left in this league, and with the team’s future looking as questionable as it has ever been, it might be worth the risk for the Warriors’ front office. This would obviously be a hard pill to swallow, not just for the management but for the fans as well, who have seen Curry his entire career in a Warriors uniform.
What Would This Move Mean?
Considering how valuable Curry is to the Warriors, but is almost at the end of his playing days, the team would want back young talent and multiple first round picks in a trade. If they were to make this type of move, who says they wouldn’t just end up moving Jimmy Butler and/or Green as well? Golden State could easily get some type of assets for the future for these players. There are going to be some very hard discussions in the front office on what they should do with their roster.
Do they go all in for one more championship run while they still have Curry, or do they start thinking about the future? Teams around the league already believe that Kuminga is not going to return, and this is a bad hit for the team. The new CBA is what has stunted either the re-signing of Kuminga or a move to be made.
We are also seeing this with several other restricted free agents around the league. If they don’t act upon it now, Golden State’s future could be very dim, and the team will be playing losing basketball for the next decade.
