The Denver Nuggets Additions Puts Them In Great Position Heading Into 2025-26 Season
The Denver Nuggets’ additions could have helped them move the needle and get back to the promised land. The core pieces of the championship team in 2023 are still intact and are very much capable of another run at a title with the new moves they made this offseason. They addressed the weaknesses they had in their previous playoff runs. This was needed because basically every team in the West got better this offseason as well.
What Can the Nuggets’ Additions Do For Them?
The reason the Nuggets are in a position to do great things this upcoming season isn’t just because they made one good move. They made four great decisions that helped with one of the main things this team has been lacking. We know how great Nikola Jokic is, and what he can do on the floor for his team is just otherworldly. That being said, there is a massive difference when he gets subbed out of the game. The Nuggets’ NET rating goes from one of the best in the league when he’s on the floor to one of the worst when he is not. That alone should say enough about what he means to this team.
This is why making moves to add depth instead of chasing one lone star player was the perfect decision by the Nuggets front office. They went out and brought back a key member of their 2023 championship team in Bruce Brown. They also traded Michael Porter Jr, who was on a very expensive contract, for Cameron Johnson. These Nuggets additions were huge for them, as Brown already has experience and chemistry playing with these guys, and Cam Johnson has a similar play style to MPJ.
They also picked up Tim Hardaway Jr, who just had a very solid season in Detroit, and Jonas Valanciunas. He is a great pickup for them as he might be the best big man that Jokic has played with, and will be good for when Jokic is not in the game.
What Do These Moves Do For the Team?
These moves are huge for the team. Not only did they get better in a bunch of different ways, but they addressed what they have needed the most for a while now. That is their depth. They should now be able to survive just enough when Jokic is not on the floor, and getting your star player rest during the regular season is very important if you are trying to make a deep run in the playoffs.
They also managed to get off that Michael Porter Jr. contract earlier than expected, which is great for the new CBA rules. The Nuggets look to get back to the finals this next season and win it all again, proving to the league why Jokic is by far the best player in the NBA. The new Nuggets additions will surely support him on his way to proving that.
