New-Look Golden State Warriors With Thrilling Victory Against Chicago Bulls
The Golden State Warriors completed a thrilling comeback Saturday to defeat the Chicago Bulls 132-111. Things looked dire for the Warriors as they were trailing by 24 points early in the third quarter. They responded with a 73-28 run to win the game comfortably.
Point Guard Stephen Curry finished with 34 points going 8-of-16 from downtown. Curry’s performance spearheaded Golden State’s run with 24 points in the third quarter. Jimmy Butler also played well in his first game with the team scoring 25 points and setting a franchise record with 11 made free throws in his Golden State Warriors debut. Will the new-look Warriors be able to keep it up over the final 3o regular season games?
Golden State Warriors Season Outlook
Golden State was active at the NBA Trade Deadline trying to acquire Kevin Durant and LeBron James. After those deals fell through, they turned their attention toward acquiring Butler from the Miami Heat. In the trade sending Butler to the Bay Area, the Golden State Warriors sent Andrew Wiggins out of town.
Following last night’s victory, Curry struck an optimistic tone regarding the success he and Butler could have as a duo. “He’s like the exact opposite player of me. I took 16 3s and he shot one. He got to the free throw line a lot, dominated the paint. I dominate the perimeter. It has the potential to be really fun.” Curry is understandably very excited about his new running mate.
It has been a middling season for the Golden State Warriors. They are 26-26 and 11th in the Western Conference. They have the same record as the Phoenix Suns but are 1-2 against them this season. Golden State’s offense has been poor this season. They are 18th in points scored, 26th in field goal percentage, and one of the worst rebounding teams in the league. The Warriors have been led by its defense this season. They are 10th in points allowed, 11th in opposing field goal percentage, and in the middle of the pack in turning over the opposition.
Final Thoughts
Golden State continues their road trip tomorrow against the Milwaukee Bucks. Golden State will look to keep up their success from Saturday as the Warriors look to climb into the NBA Play-In Tournament and hopefully into the top six in the conference. The duo of Curry and Butler may not lead to great on-court success, but it will be interesting to watch.
