Brooklyn Nets Could Shop Elite Shooter Cam Johnson for Another 2025 Lottery Pick
The Brooklyn Nets earned the No. 8 Overall Pick in the 2025 Draft a couple of weeks ago and now are thinking about getting another lottery pick to go along with the 8th pick and are willing to move forward Cam Johnson in the deal to get that lottery, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post. Lewis is also reporting that the Nets could be trying to move up to the second pick to maybe get Dylan Harper. If the Nets could land Harper, that would change the trajectory of the rebuild a bit. But it will cost them a veteran presence that has been a great 3 and D player.Â
The Spurs should consider this route if the Nets offered Johnson
The Spurs need a wing player to go along with the core of De’Aaron Fox, Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, and Devin Vessell. Cam Johnson is a perfect option if the Spurs can’t get Giannis Antetokounmpo, because he can provide a spark at times on the wings, and some much-needed shooting from that position. But Giannis should be the priority one, before considering Johnson.Â
How Harper Accelerates The Rebuild for the Nets
Brooklyn would love to have Dylan Harper, because he would be that point guard that they haven’t had in a long time, that could be a new face of the franchise type of player like Jason Kidd was in the early 2000s. I think the Nets are smart to try anything that they can do to get Harper, but trading a great shooter in Johnson to do it would be a risky deal, but it would be completely worth it for the rebuild alone, to maybe get the Nets two talented young players in this talented 2025 Draft class.Â
Final Thoughts
Brooklyn is in a great, interesting spot for their rebuild with the potential assets to move up to grab another lottery pick in this draft. And with how the lottery played out, the Spurs might be willing to do business with the Nets for potentially a great haul. This would be a mutually beneficial deal for both the Nets and Spurs if the deal were made, in my estimation.
