Davis Trade Talks Have Been Renewed by Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks are having renewed Anthony Davis trade talks. Here’s what you need to know about Davis, 32, and the Mavericks right now as we get closer to the trade deadline next month.
The Former Laker and Pelican has had a tough season up to this point with dealing with injuries so far in 2025-26, as his health continues to be an issue. Now the Mavericks might have to consider the alternatives without having AD in the lineup moving forward. Here are the details of the latest with Davis.
Dallas Mavericks Have Anthony Davis Trade Talks
ESPN’s Shams Charania followed up with a fascinating development about Anthony Davis on Tuesday afternoon.
Charania, 31, wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “Fascinating development: The Mavericks are having renewed Davis trade talks with multiple interested teams, sources said. If moved to a playoff contender, the return timeline could allow Davis to return during the postseason while establishing himself for the long-term elsewhere.”ย ย
As expected, Charania’s post attracted ample attention from the public. One X user, Robert Littal BSO, wrote, “I don’t think AD and Long Term should be in the same sentence anymore. Short-term/Part-time time likely what you are looking at.” Another X user, lynz, responded, “I would rather take a small fry from McDonald’s at this point.”
Davis Suffers Mavericks Setback
ESPN’s Shams Charania initially reported to X, formerly Twitter, an Anthony Davis injury update earlier on Tuesday.
Charania wrote, “Dallas Mavericks’ Anthony Davis is likely to undergo surgery to repair ligament damage in his left hand and miss several months, sources tell ESPN. His Dallas season is essentially over, given the prognosis and the Mavs’ direction.”
As expected, Charania’s post attracted attention from the public. One X user, Allan Lem, asked, “How we feeling, Mavs fans?” Another X user, GetWetSports, commented, “Buddy needs to consider becoming a DoorDash driver.”
Next Steps
Injuries are a part of the NBA, but Anthony Davis has suffered a laundry list of ailments since he joined the Dallas Mavericks. He’s sustained 18 ailments since February 7, 2025, in the abdomen, adductor, thigh, groin, Achilles, leg, calf, illness, and now, hand. He injured his hand while defending Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen on a drive late in the Mavs’ road loss to the Jazz.
The 32-year-old is expected to undergo surgery to repair ligament damage in his left hand and miss several months, sources told ESPN. This report was later changed by Shams and the Mavericks PR team to Davis not needing surgery on that left hand after all, but given the Mavericks’ direction at 15-25 and 12th in the Western Conference, trade talks could be on the horizon.
The 2026 NBA Draft is the last in which the Mavs have control of their first-round pick until 2031. The Mavs’ priority is to prioritize the long-term outlook, while building rookie Cooper Flagg, one of the front-running NBA Rookie of the Year candidates.
