Magic Dominate Shorthanded Bucks 130-91 Behind Banchero’s 33-Point Masterclass

Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero.

Paolo Banchero didn’t need Giannis Antetokounmpo on the floor to put on a show. He was going to do it anyway.

The Orlando Magic star dropped 33 points Sunday night at Fiserv Forum, leading the Magic to a commanding 130-91 blowout over the Milwaukee Bucks in a game that was never really close. Orlando led wire-to-wire, cruised into halftime up 67-55, and then completely suffocated the Bucks in the third quarter — outscoring them 33-15 — before coasting home in the fourth.

Four straight wins. The Magic are rolling.

Banchero Puts the Team on His Back

There’s a version of this game where the Magic win by 10 and everyone moves on. Instead, Banchero turned it into a statement. He shot 12-of-16 from the field, knocked down three triples, and was so dominant that coach Jamahl Mosley pulled him late in the third quarter — with Orlando already ahead by 31 points.

That’s not just winning. That’s controlling.

Banchero finished with 5 rebounds and 3 assists to go along with the 33 points. His +27 rating told the full story. When he was on the floor, the Bucks simply had no answer.

Suggs and Bane Make It a Party

This wasn’t a one-man show, though. The Magic had the kind of balanced attack that makes them genuinely dangerous heading into the stretch run.

Jalen Suggs was electric. He poured in 20 points on an efficient 7-of-9 from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. He was everywhere — picking up two steals, making the right pass, and capping off a bruising defensive performance. It was Suggs who hit a corner three early in the fourth quarter to ignite a 12-0 run that put the game completely out of reach. At that point, it was a matter of running out the clock.

Desmond Bane quietly had one of his best games as a Magic. He didn’t light up the box score with points — 18 on the night — but nine assists and four steals paint the picture of a guy who dictates the flow of a basketball game. Coach Mosley said it best after the final buzzer: “He’s just going to find ways to win, whether that’s having to score 30 with no 3s or if he’s just going to have to rack up nine assists because he’s getting his teammates involved.”

That’s exactly who Bane is right now. A winning player.

The Magic Defense Was Suffocating

The offense gets the headlines.

“It was a defensive clinic in a lot of ways,” Mosley said postgame, and he wasn’t exaggerating. The Magic held Milwaukee to just 91 points — marking the fifth time since February 1 that Orlando held an opponent under 100. With this win, the Magic improved to 7-0 when holding opponents below the century mark.

Think about that. Seven for seven.

Milwaukee shot just 42.9% from the field and a miserable 29.5% from three. The Bucks tried to manufacture offense through Bobby Portis (18 points, 10 rebounds off the bench) and Cam Thomas (17 points), but it was nowhere near enough against a defense that was locked in from tip-off.

Bucks Without Their Star

To Milwaukee’s credit, they were without Giannis Antetokounmpo, who sat out the second night of a back-to-back after nursing a right calf strain that has already cost him 30 games this season. That’s the most the Greek Freak has missed in his 13-year career, and the Bucks are paying the price. They sit 11th in the East, 4.5 games behind 10th-place Charlotte with just 19 games remaining. The play-in tournament feels like a steep climb at this point.

Second-leading scorer Kevin Porter Jr. also missed his third straight game with swelling in his right knee. So yes — the Bucks were shorthanded. But the Magic didn’t let up. That’s what good teams do.

In a light moment, Thanasis Antetokounmpo — Giannis’ older brother — played a season-high nine minutes and finished with four points. The Fiserv Forum crowd gave him a warm reception. It was a rare bright spot for the home side on an otherwise forgettable night.

Where the Magic Stand

Orlando improves to 35-28 on the season, sitting sixth in the Eastern Conference — one game behind fifth-place Toronto. The Magic have now scored 130 or more points seven times this season. The last time Orlando hit that mark seven times in a year was the 2019-20 campaign.

This Magic team is different. They defend. They share the ball. And when Banchero decides to take over, there’s very little anyone can do about it.

Next up: Orlando hosts Cleveland on Wednesday. The Bucks stay home to face Phoenix on Tuesday.
