Lonnie Walker IV Set To Become a Free Agent; Philadelphia 76ers Decline Team Option
The Philadelphia 76ers declined veteran Point Guard Lonnie Walker IV’s $2.9 million team option for the 2025-2026 season. That move will make him a free agent this summer. Walker IV appeared in only 20 games last season. He played overseas before debuting with the Sixers in February. The veteran point guard is coming off a career season. He averaged career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, and free throw percentage. Which team will sign the point guard this offseason?
The Best Fits For Lonnie Walker IV
The Philadelphia 76ers are declining guard Lonnie Walker IV’s team option worth $2.9 million, making him a free agent, sources tell ESPN. Walker averaged 12.3 points, 23.8 minutes and 35.4% 3-point shooting in 20 games for the 76ers last season.

Walker IV’s career season will make him a hot commodity on the open market. A few good fits for him are the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards. Boston has already made a few trades this offseason. They are reportedly looking to shed even more salary before next season tips off. Marquee names like Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Sam Hauser are all on the block. If Boston decides to strip the team down even further, Walker IV could be a solid option for the team.
The Washington Wizards dealt the enigmatic Jordan Poole earlier this month. That leaves the team with a hole at the guard position. Washington acquired CJ McCollum in the Poole trade, but the former Sixers guard could give the team much-needed depth at that spot.
Final Thoughts
Walker IV’s next NBA team is unknown. He will have the chance to survey the NBA landscape and sign with a team he feels will be the best fit for him. Coming off the best season of his career, he will have his fair share of suitors.Â
