LeBron James Addresses Future Ahead of 2026 NBA All-Star Game

Los Angeles; Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James.

One of the biggest storylines entering the 2026 NBA All-Star Game is whether this is the last one of LeBron James’ career. The 21-time All-Star has been one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, but after playing 1,890 games between the regular season and postseason in his 23-year career. Let’s take a closer look at what he said regarding his future following the 2025-26 NBA season.

LeBron James is uncertain of his NBA future at this point

Ahead of the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, LeBron James had a press conference where he was asked if he still had any uncertainty about what his future would look like following this season. Below is how James answered:

“I want to live. When I know, you guys (will) know. I don’t know. I have no idea. Just want to live.”

James is currently on a $52.6 million player option with the Los Angeles Lakers before becoming an unrestricted free agent this offseason. There were some rumors that he could have been traded before the NBA Trade Deadline, but ultimately remained with the Lakers to finish the season.

James has been playing well throughout the season as he entered the NBA All-Star break with 22.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.6 blocks over 33.3 minutes. His 50.2/30.5/74.6 shooting split sets him in a great spot to continue adding to his multiple NBA all-time records that he has already set in his legendary career.

There is a chance that he will remain with the Lakers or play somewhere else next season. However, at 41 years old, there is always a chance that he decides to call it a career and officially retire as well.

LeBron James is not able to be the beacon of health he has been throughout his career, as he is not going to hit the minimum qualifications to be eligible for end-of-season awards. It is going to be intriguing to see what he ultimately decides to do after having done basically everything there is to do in the NBA throughout his illustrious career.
